Wine Country California - where to stay, etc

What did you choose??? If you like CA wine history, go to ch. montelena (it’s charming) and watch the movie “bottle shock” before you go.

Wine tour is just a group tour and they go to inexpensive wineries with mostly red wines. I would have liked to pick my wineries and would have gone for a little higher end wines, but I can certainly live with this.
Restaurants are Girl and Fig, Layla (for brunch) and LaSalette (we can walk to all of them. We may decide on others instead as it gets closer, but these 3 seem pretty good).
There is a hike (I think it’s really more like a walk) that is not too far a walk from our place. I can’t remember the name of it. We may drive elsewhere for other hikes in addition to this one.

I highly recommend Jack London Park just outside of Sonoma in Glen Ellen. $10 entrance fee for a car. Lovely grounds, historic homes and grounds - what an amazing life. Very enthusiastic docents - you can walk approx a mile r/t to the site of his home that burned down - the other 2 homes are preserved and really worth a visit. Allow 2 hours max - really fascinating.

Great suggestion! Absolutely second that. Beautiful place and packs so much history.

You can also buy take away and heat entrees from El Molino - even though highly advise eating there. Lots of picnic tables and I crave their fish tacos and black beans  Bucks pizza is rumored to be good and haven’t tried yet - easy for your “cooking” nights.

It’s been a while, but IIRC, Sattui has a great place to grab a bite and sit outside to eat.

And also oxbow public market in Napa. Great collection of booths and shops.

OP here - we are back from our trip to San Francisco and Sonoma. Overall, trip was a success.
The place we stayed in Sonoma was awesome for our large party. A couple of mornings we saw several hot air balloons out our windows, which was fun.
Our wine tour was fine but not great (wouldn’t recommend any of the wineries we visited, but it was a good enough experience).
We ate at Girl and Fig, LaSalette, and Layla. They were all really good. Group consensus was Girl and Fig was best.
We spent 5 days in SF before we met up with the rest of our group. We had a great time in SF, including hiking Angel Island and riding our bikes to Sausalito and Tiberon. We also went to Golden Gate Park and the botanical garden there.
Then we Ubered to Sonoma, which worked well. When we needed to Uber to the airport from Sonoma it didn’t go so well. Wound up costing us $160, which seemed pretty high. Getting to Sonoma was maybe $80.

Glad the trip went well! I’d say… $160 to SFO from Sonoma? That’s a bargain! It can cost that much to get there from Palo Alto which is way closer.
