Wine Selection - Pinot Noir or Syrah

OK. I’ll try to get back to you regarding that question in a day or two. He’s sound asleep right now and finally has a day off tomorrow.

Thanks, nysmile. No rush-- I am just always appreciative of great recommendations

Thanks, everyone. We have both a Pinot Noir and a Riesling in the house, and will probably open both.

Gewurztraminers and Rieslings don’t have to be sweet, but they are fruitier and spicier and the usual chardonnays and sauvignon blancs, they are somewhat of an acquired taste - (five years in Germany!). I also like light reds with turkey - beaujolais nouveau is fun for it - though sometimes it tastes too sweet for me.

jym626,

Excellent wine values at $10.00-$12.00:

2007 Domaine Brunet Pino Noir from France
2007 Lotus Chardonnay from California
2006 Deloach Cabernet from California

Thanks, Nysmile. Did he have any recommendations in the $15-30 range?

current vintage Slingshot Cabernet—from California $27ish
current vintage Twenty Bench Cabernet—from California $22ish

Thanks-- which vintage is currently in the shops??–

I think the Slingshot is an '05—awesome–similar to a Bordeaux
I think Twenty Bench is an "06–medium bodied with a smooth finish

'05 Voss-----a syrah. One of Son’s favorites. From California. Only $20 but tastes like a mid $30 bottle.

current vintage Stag’s Leap: Artemis $60 Pure Velvet!

nysmile - do the monterey county wines make it back there? Brands like Parsonage, Talbott, Pisoni, Lucia? Small vineyards and I am curious if they make it to the east coast (I try to keep as much as possible in the area - e.g. in my wine fridge :)

Here in NY–Yes they do in limited quantities regarding Talbott (more readily available then Pisoni) and Pisoni (very limited). We’re not familiar with Lucia or Parsonage. California and Italian wines are the most popular in the store followed by French.

Other : Cabernat-Sauvignon.

Thanks for all the suggestions nysmile and scualum. Down here in the SE we don’t get a lot from the smaller vineyards, but I will be sure to go in search of these!
