ur friend got into winter 2008 and he called? did he call today?
oh dang im gonna call tmr then to try my luck

yeah he got into winter 2008. good luck to all and keep hope alive

I am a winter admit too (2007)
It’s honestly not too bad, although you are going to have a VERY long summer

About housing… there is a good chance you guys won’t get housing. The winter admits 2006 all did but not us, 2007.

anyways, here’s some quick advice on apartments
choose an apartment near the school bus stops, NOT the closest ones. (school buses as in UCSD’s, NOT the city’s)

1. The school shuttle buses (nobel and ariba) comes like every 10-15 minutes so it’s actually quite convenient.

2. The closer apartments are alot smaller and more expensive

3. The apartments that the school shuttles go to are usually the ones that are walking distance from the malls/stores.

Costa verde, La Jolla Colonies, International Gardens, la Scolla (is that how you spell it?) are all pretty nice… there’s alot more

It’s actually pretty easy to find an apartment and you shouldn’t have a problem. A lot of my friends got their’s a month or two before school started.

I love living in an apartment, I can’t imagine being crammed into tiny rooms and sharing showers with 8 other ppl. The main issue is that it’s going to be harder to meet people. The nice thing though is that usually there are tons of people in your complex that are winter admits so it’s not too bad… joining clubs and sports help a ton

On top of that, parties are a lot easier to hold and find because the campus police isn’t breathing down your neck.

Nevertheless, missing the first quarter really blows but it’s not really the end of the world. As long as you take classes at a community college, you won’t get behind at all. (Make sure to check out www.assist.org ,even if a course on there isn’t deemed as “UCSD equivalent”, you can easily appeal… although its a risk) Chances are, you’ll probably get all your classes too winter quarter.

So dont stress too much

So are you guys ‘accepted’ even if you guys got the Winter admission?

ya its acceptance got the big envelope mail and evrything

i was also a winter admit for 2007 and it DEFINITELY has its perks! it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be.

and instead of being behind on credits, im actually ahead. WAY ahead. i have junior status due to my AP, IB, and community college credits and can register earlier than most freshmen!!

and i have met tons of awesome people, even if i dont live in the dorms. it’s all about going to events or staying on campus more often. ucsd is definitely not as boring as it’s hyped up to be. i’m having a good time here!

thats good to hear!
im about ready to turn in my SIR for UCSD
im jus waiting for UCI (reject or accept) … which is another option of mine

Question: for UCSD’s online roommate finder site where we submit a profile… do we get to find our own potential apartment/offcampus roommates by viewing their profile or does UCSD match us?

I was also a winter admit 2007 and it is kind of hard to meet new people at first. but if you try its really not that bad. i suggest rooming with other winter admits and taking classes at a jc before transferring. any extra credits you can get will put you in an earlier time slot when registering for classes. you can also apply to live on campus for your second year if you really want to, i will be living on campus for the 2008 school year in our International house. i hope this helps you guys out!

woah! jess! how did u get into ihouse?! i heard the app process is pretty damn selective? share please? i might apply for 3rd year or something just cus i heard it has the best living conditions and i would love to meet ppl from all over the world.

atlantiz, i basically filled out the app and had my landlord fill out my letter of rec since i dont have an r.a. living off campus. in my essays for my apps i spun it with how much i would learn by living in i-house, not how much i would be able to teach…especially since i dont speak another language. i said that i could show the overseas kids what american students are like. i really didnt expect to get in. good luck!
