We had 6" of snow yesterday. The forecast for tonight :Clear and cold. Wind chills will range from -15° to -30° during the evening. Low: -14°. Wind: Northwest 5-15 mph.

Right now it is -1 with no wind. It really doesn’t feel bad at all. Once the wind picks up it will be take your breath away cold. You never really get used to it.

I keep checking the New England weather forecast…and I don’t see anything heading this way at all. Not snow, not ice, and not bitter cold! Where is this storm going?

Lost power in Dallas at 4:00am. Sitting at a pancake house a mile away grabbing a bite and charging up the iPhones and iPad while DH works the phones on a business deal.

nrdsb4 - does the pancake house have a generator? Is that how they have power? Or is the power outage that spotty that you can be without it, but a mile down the road they have it?

We have heavy wood electric powered garage doors. You can raise them manually but due to the weight, they fall down again. DH had to stand a ladder with a tall nod on it under the door in order to back the car out.

Cold isn’t the issue here. It’s the snow. A nearby news station just reported we’ve had 8 inches of snow here. It’s supposed to keep snowing for another 4-6 hours and then taper off. We had some sleet and icing last night.

It’s a balmy 23 degrees here right now. It’s supposed to drop down to about 10 degrees tonight.

I live far enough south in my state that they aren’t great at snow removal. We usually don’t get more than 1-2 inches at a time. Ice is more of a problem with the hills here. Unfortunately they use a sand/salt mixture rather than straight salt.

On another note, the UPS guy made it to my house today. I don’t expect the USPS will.

This may sound like an insignificant question, but are the airports up and running at all?? H has tickets to see the Cowboys/Bears game Monday night, but I’m wondering if the Cowboys are going to be able to get out of the Dallas if the airport is not functioning.

It’s raining here with the possibility of snow showers overnight. Much colder Monday with a chance of freezing rain…my favorite…not. But that is guaranteed to happen because DH is traveling on business.

I doubt it very seriously; am guessing they have their own plane, or charter. But if the airport is completely shut down (and I’m not sure if they fly out of Love or DFW), I don’t think it would matter if it’s charter or commercial.

teriwitt,
I know you north/west of Chicago and I am south, just across the birder in IN. It is really cold here, and snow is forecast for Sunday evening, a couple inches.

Son and DIL arrive on the 19th with our 1-yo granddaughter. It’s in the upper 70s where they in in Spain. DIL has never experienced real cold/winter. I’m hoping for temps that are bearable for at least a little outdoor activity.

Actually it’s not that bad. I was just out to eat dinner (about -13 right now) at a popular Chinese restaurant. About 75% usual volume for friday night. Basically walking back and forth to the car and chilled for about 5 minutes until the car/seat warms up. Don’t like cold leather seats in winter. I did get a remote car start for Christmas last year but it’s not working and haven’t taken it in to get checked yet.

The cold out in the Rockies is much nicer than the cold in the Midwest. The humid cold, like the humid heat, just seems much more miserable than the crisp dry cold out here. I like to hear to snow squeak when you walk on it.

I did drive 200+ miles today out in the boondocks, about half on snow/ice, with temp about -10deg. I did make sure to have a full tank and lots of extra down jackets and stuff in the car in case I got stranded. Also checked in with DH 1-2x hour (whenever there was cellphone service) and let him know where I was.
