My daughter, 23, has all 4 wisdom teeth impacted but only one bottom one has bothered her twice this year. She was working a new job and put it off until the summer when it ended. Now she is leaving for France 9/21. The dentist wants to extract all 4 or 2 bottoms on 09/2 and thinks she’ll be fine by the 21st. She is wavering on just having the one done and the others in he Spring when she returns from her year teaching abroad.
I know that no one really knows how you will recover, but I wondered what opinions others had. I am thinking just get the one that bothers you on occasion out, she is leaning toward, just do it all now. My concern is that 3 wks is long with normal recovery, not so much with any complications. Is my dental anxiety showing? : ) I did well with having one done many years ago, but been around too many horror stories I’ve kept from her.
Could you have them removed in NJ if necessary? Depending on how they are impacted, I wouldn’t put it off.
Just curious - when I had my wisdom teeth removed about 30 years ago, the oral surgeon recommended doing one side at a time (top & bottom). This way, only one side of your mouth was out of commission at a time and less overall pain. So I had two procedures, one over spring break and one at the beginning of summer. Some friends who went to other oral surgeons also received this advise.
Has the thought process changed? Did some people never come back for the second procedure? Did they not want to pay for a second sedation?
If everything goes well 4 at once isn’t a big deal. However my oldest had his out the summer after he graduated high school. He ended up with a dry socket and a lot of pain. I’m glad he had plenty of time to recover before college started. Because he had a problem I have decided that my younger 2 will also have them out in the summer and not during a winter or spring break.
My D’s dentist wanted to take all four out at the same time while she was under propofol. It was done at a hospital. It was no big deal. Three were simple extraction and healed fast. The fourth was deep and the surgeory left a big hole even after filled and sewed up. For her, the full recovery was after the hole was filled with new growth, about a month. She got it done in July after HS graduation.
