If he pitched the whole game, wouldn’t his ERA for the game be 2.0, or less? (Less than 2.o if runs were “unearned” due to errors.) Either way…even a 2.0 with a complete game against a state finalist team is very impressive. You should all be very proud!

Way to go! It’s early in the season so that’s a great result. Keep us posted on the season. And take care of that good boy’s arm
And yes, ERA has got to be 2 or less at this point.

Formula is earned runs/number of innings pitched if taken out during an inning, it is innings.1 if after one out, innings .2 if after 2 outs), times the number of innings in a complete game (usually 7 in high school, 9 in college).

Now–determining earned runs is an art. I was once at a baseball game where 3 different baseball guys had 3 different answers as to how many runs in a particular inning had been earned. Normally you figure it out at the end of the inning by answering the question–had it not been for the errors how many runs would have scored. But that can be really subjective.
