<p>I did a search and was surprised that these questions had not yet been asked and answered before. Or are my searching skills in 2008 not working as well as they did before???</p>

<p>As far as an official answer to your questions:</p>

<li><p>There is no stated desired length of the Wilson essay. In fact there isn’t even a recommended length. You have as much space as you need, but obviously only include information that answers the prompt of the questions.</p></li>
<li><p>My suggestion … detail is important. Once again you don’t need to go overboard with every specific detail, but the evaluators of the fellowship are going to judge you on your ideas, your experience with research, and how unique your thoughts and ideas are. </p></li>
<li><p>Yes, you can propose your own new research concept, or build on previous conducted research. </p></li>
