<p>Yeah, well, I think Humbert Humbert knows the score on this matter.</p>
<p>I think he did more than take up with the daughter of his current lover. He took up with someone who was, essentially, his daughter. That is the part that really concerned me, far more than the age difference. </p>
<p>But I still maintain that if we boycotted the movies, songs, plays, poems, novels, paintings and so on of every artist with giant flaws in his/her character/judgment/personal life story, we would have very few pleasures in this life. We sure couldn’t enjoy a Gaugin painting: after all, he abandoned his family in order to flee to the South Seas to paint.</p>

<p>I don’t boycott every artist with giant flaws. I boycott Woody Allen. There is just something I find repugnant and repulsive about him.</p>
<p>Didn’t Woody Allen adopt two kids with Soon-Yi? I wonder how that happened if Woody was a pedophile?</p>
<p>I find what he did with Soon-Yi a little creepy, but who am I to judge? And they have been married for over 10 years. Maybe longer than some people on this board. And Soon-Yi was not his daughter.</p>
<p>I hear there are “pimp and ho parties” not far from where I live. The middle-aged husbands are the pimps and the wives are the hos. At or after the party, there is a little swapping going around. Then the next day back to “normal”. These people are pillars of our society.</p>

<p>Anyway, I plan on seeing Woody’s new movie.</p>
<p>I used to love Woody Allen’s movies - Annie Hall was a delight - but I have boycotted them since the Soon-Yi affair. I thought that he and Mia Farrow were married? They had a child together. The Soon-Yi thing makes me sick. He was, essentially, a father figure to her. And think of the effects on the other kids - for example, Allen’s child with Farrow has to deal with his father being married to his sister. And think of the shock Mia Farrow must have experienced when she learned of the affair. Does she have a relationship with her daughter now?</p>
<p>I read Mia Farrow’s book and one thing that was very clear was that Woody Allen never lived with them. From her description he was fairly indifferent to the kids and certainly not responsible for them. I’m not saying at all that this makes his relationship to Soon Yi any more appropriate, but I don’t think he was anything resembling a traditional father to them. He did adopt Moses but that was at Mia’s urging and her description of how it came to be doesn’t make it sound like Woody had any real interest in it. It just seems like if he was really a pedophile he’d have happily moved in and immersed himself in the family. Though he obviously agreed to adopt the two youngest children with her, again it was not his idea.</p>
<p>Mia also describes several disturbing incidents with their adopted daughter Dylan, but the way she dealt with it was to tell the staff and other kids to not leave Woody alone with Dylan. If you thought your boyfriend was molesting your daughter wouldn’t you take further action? Why didn’t this issue come out until the Soon Yi blow up? </p>
<p>I certainly can’t defend Woody’s judgment, and he definitely has a fixation on the older man/younger woman relationship, but is he a pedophile?</p>

<p>pretty much- it would be negligence if not abuse not to.</p>
<p>Whether he is a pedophile or not wouldn’t change the incredible lack of character (to put it charitably) in seducing the adopted teen-aged daughter of your companion. He was willing to turn daughter against mother, and to cheat on Mia in the most hostile, self serving way possible. I always thought it was kind of creepy and repulsive how he had young women fall in love with his character in movies, but those scenarios pale in comparison to his actual life. I can’t watch his movies anymore because he always has young beautiful women in them and I feel complicit in that particular “gaze”, which is essentially that of a dirty old man.</p>
