Working Out in College

OP-Gotta exercise everyday. Need to do activities so you are at LEAST sweating an hour each day.

^Sorry, but no. If I do that, I’ll never stick with it. I guarantee you that. There’s no way I’m starting out doing that much, or I’ll be extremely sore, probably stressed about it, and generally against the idea of putting my body through that. In my opinion, starting with too much activity is probably what keeps people away from regular exercise.

I don’t know about that… maybe if you are just starting out and had very little muscle to start with those kind of gains are possible… stills seems pretty high/optimistic.

Do it in 30 minute sessions. Walking vigorously for 30 minutes. Shooting baskets and retrieving the ball 30 minutes. Swimming for 30 minutes. Jogging for 30 minutes. Exercise should be part of your daily activities. Seems like you do no exercise at all so you need to do activities you find fun to keep you motivated. Failure to incorporate exercise in your daily routine is your choice. Good luck.

nah, no one puts on 12 lbs of muscle in a month, let a lone a year. if he really did gain 12 lbs in a month (which is entirely possible) it’s mostly water with a little bit of muscle and fat.

Sorry but I believe the pros over you.
"However, even if we are dedicated (some may call it obsessed) and diligent about our nutrition, with proper training and recuperation practices, we still would not be able to add more than 1 pound of muscle in a week. That’s right, only one pound a week–and this is assuming you’ve had a darn good week both inside and outside the gym! "

"On ‘average’ the best anyone can do with a perfect diet, excellent & hard workout routines, and everything else being perfect, is about 0.454kg (454 grams = 1 pound) of muscle per week. Scientifically this is the maximum limit for human beings. We cannot gain more muscle than this per week. "
“Considering almost NO one has everything (diet exercise
, etc) 100% perfect, this maximum is realistically going to be about 300 grams or 0.75 pounds per week.”

I didn’t do gym stuff in high school either. I found the best way to get into the gym thing was to go with a friend who already did that sort of stuff. Going with a gym buddy gives you more motivation to go, and they can teach you how to do the different stuff. If you just ask to tag along with your roommate or hallmates next time they go to the gym they will not mind and help you get started for free.

IMO, a gym partner is just as necessary as a good nutritious diet. I know people are gonna disagree with me here, but when you are a beginner its always tough to do things the right way.

I haven’t been lifting weights for long, but I gotta say, once you start getting the hang of it, its REALLY hard to let it go.

Gyms are nice, but you know, there are the pros and cons. I just take some valuable advice given to me by Jennay, “RUN FORREST RUN!”

gaining muscle mass increases your metabolism and your overall health.

gyms are awesome. Just go to the gym. If you’re clueless ask how to do certain exercises and then create a program which will hit each bodypart (legs/back/chest/shoulders/arms) at least once a week, or you could do search for a tried a tested routine on the internet via several of the forums out there.
I don’t really see the need of a gym buddy, I mean, if you go regularly you’re probably going to end up befriending some guys there anyways, and most people there are friendly enough to spot strangers. Just cuz someone looks big and like he could beat you up, doesn’t mean he wants to. I remember when I started going last year, I went all by myself.
