World Cup fever!

in other words, usa is in control of their own destiny, if they win they are in. i think they should have a shoot out if all tie breakers are equal instead of pulling out a piece of paper

the FIFA review of the referee will be rushed… quite possibly he will not see another game this world cup (and he shouldn’t).

giving a yellow card when the ball hits a player in the head is unacceptable (US will be without Findley next game due to that yellow card, btw)

calling a foul where all of the US players are getting mugged is unacceptable.

you can see a picture here, all the US players being held:
http://i47.■■■■■■■.com/2rf829y.jpg

There is always grabbing in the box on free kicks and corner kicks… but it is usually not that bad. How you can find a US foul in all of that is amazing.

My favorite was the US player in a head lock, then thrown to the ground.

I think that was our captain Carlos Bocanegra. And any mention of him always brings to mind this photo: http://habs.theoffside.com/files/2009/04/carlos-bocanegra-arms.jpg.

Although the “handball” called on Findlay’s face was bogus, I can’t say I’m sorry he won’t be playing in the Algeria match. He and Torres both had horrible games today.

I sure hope the guy behind the bald American guy was wearing protection.

Well, Ghana has played both games with at least a man advantage for 15 min, no goals scored expect for PK. I would like to see Australia play 90 at full strength. If I’m Germany, I’m feeling pretty good about my chances v Ghana.

I wonder Australia still has any chance to go to the next round.

France has sent Nicolas Anelka home. Interesting. I guess there are consequences for bad behavior after all.

ghostfire, I have long admired Bocanegra. ;)

The yesterday call against the US third goal confused my head when I watched the Camaroun-Denmark game today. When Denmark scored the 2nd goal, I heard the ESPN/ABC anchor said something too quick I could not understand. Then the scoreboard instead of showing 1-2, it showed 1-1 with the word OFFSIDE. I the thought the score was annulled. Finally the scoreboard showed 2-2 after 1 minute.

Was I the only one who noticed this?

I didn’t see that. I saw Denmark make a goal that made the score 2 1. Took a while for the score to change. Later there was an offside call . Didn’t see a score change. The game ended 2 1.

That game was fun/frustrating to watch. I guess Cameroon is eliminated.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s games.

“France has sent Nicolas Anelka home. Interesting. I guess there are consequences for bad behavior after all.”

What did he do, …

…take more than one shower in a week?
…refuse to surrender to the German team?
…make a snide comment about Jerry Lewis?
…say something nice about George W. Bush?
…say that it wouldn’t ruin the French movie industry if they included a frickin’ car chase once in a while?
…ask what’s the big deal about Gerard Depardieu?

Anelka cursed out the manager (/coach) at halftime of the Mexico game, lol

If Australia beats Serbia and Ghana beats Germany, the group will look like:

Ghana - 7
Australia - 4
Germany - 3
Serbia - 3

admittedly, this is a long shot. If Ghana and Germany tie and Australia beats Serbia, the standings will be

Ghana - 5
Germany - 4
Australia - 4
Serbia - 3

In order for Australia to win the tie breaker over Germany, they will need to win by 8 goals against Serbia… if they win by 7 it would go to the next tie breaker. So, the only realistic option is the first scenario, b/c I don’t think they are going to be scoring 7/8 goals in one game.

“Ghana beats Germany” - this may happen if Germany gets another red card.

Soccerguy: If Germany beats Ghana, and Australia beats Serbia, wouldn’t the standings be:

Germany 6
Ghana 4
Australia 4
Serbia 3

THen does Ghana or Australia advance?

Australia loses to Germany 0-4 and Serbia beats German 1-0. Odds are, Germany and Serbia will win their third games and both will qualify for the next round.

Not too surprised by the result for Paraguay, and thrilled for the Kiwis!! Could they possibly go to the round of 16? That would be amazing.

Meanwhile, a team meeting for the Brits in crisis, and France totally unravelling. Some discontent in Portugal as well. I just hope Spain holds it together.

I think Ivory Coast is the strongest African team and hope they do well against Brazil.
