History is made!

Wow, amazing…Holland versus Spain

Woot!

(10char)

Yes, yes, yes!!!

From what I saw (a little of the first half plus the second) la Furia Roja was all over the Germans like a cheap suit. Those Spaniards are fun to watch.

Yea, they were dominating early. And Villa was open a lot but never got the pass. I think Germany is a bit lucky it was only 1-0.

So true…the Germans seemed so sluggish today
, their passes weren’t crisp or accurate. Spain was on fire the whole time and they held the ball with magnetic footwork.

Definitely agree. There was a 2 on 1 with the keeper that would have certainly resulted in a goal for Spain had the Spanish guy (Pedro?) only passed to the open man. Instead, he wanted the goal for himself and totally blew it. Good thing they were ahead by one at that point instead of behind. He’d probably have to wait a few months before going home if that had been the case, lol.

There were also a couple of times where Villa had the ball and was looking to score

Congratulations to Spain fans!
See you there Sunday.

Good performance by Spain bar Pedro’s selfishness.

Because Germany did not fry the octopus.

[FIFA.com - Germany’s ‘Octopus oracle’ keeps perfect record](http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/newsid=1270308/index.html#germanys+octopus+oracle+keeps+perfect+record)

I loved the way Spain played today. Beautiful teamwork. Beautiful passing. A bunch of little guys kicking butt.

Should be a great final.

One thing about this world cup…not as much dribbling skills as other world cups. At least from what I see. Messi can dribble. Some great goals…some great strikes…but where are the goals like Michael Owen’s or Dennis Bergkamp’s? I guess defenses are getting better and better.

I don’t know much at all about ‘Futbol’ but I’ve been watching Univision [and my Spanish is TERRIBLE]. It’s exciting. And it just goes to show you how impatient we Americans can be. Since the U.S. team was eliminated I’ve neither seen or heard much in the media about the World Cup. Shame. Now it will be great to see which one of these two ‘old world’ super powers will be the champion.

Germany did not bring their A game today. And it cost them. You could tell in the first 15 minutes they were off, when they had two really good counter attack chances ruined in midfield due to bad passing. Full props to Spain though.

Excited for teh final…

also remember, 3rd place game on Saturday. Uruguay v. Germany. Wonder if Suarez is going to have a new club soon… he put up 49 goals last year with Ajax and he had a great World Cup. He has 74 goals in 97 appearances with Ajax, and he is only 23.

YES! Spain, finally! So stoked.

Way upthread, someone (erroneously) said that defenders are those who aren’t as talented/good as the forwards. I hope you saw Carles Puyol yesterday. He frequently is in the pack for Spain and Barcelona on corners. His run into the jump for the header was not a new move for him. That, folks, was a true golazo.

^^^On almost every one of my daughters’ soccer teams, the defenders were typically the captains and most respected players on the team. The top goal scorer on my DD’s most recent team is a defender and captain. She scores lots of goals on corner kick headers and free kicks. She’s definitely going to be playing in college.

Thomas Muller is an important link to Germany’s attack. In England’s papers they said they were "Mullered’. His spectacularly undeserved yellow card in the game with Argentina meant he didn’t play in the semifinal with Spain. This is another example where horrible refereeing altered the outcome of the World Cup. Spain were not down any important players. Germany did look poor, but I just cannot accept that they would have performed this way had Muller been with them. Look out Euro 2012 and World Cup 2014!- but not if they have the same crappy refs- then it will just be a roulette.

stillwater,

I wrote on this thread right after that game, before the Spain game, that I thought Germany should appeal that yellow. It had been done before, though not always w/positive results. I really think Germany had a good case. I still think, though, that Spain would have won.
