Would I be ineligible for the Pell Grant if my parents make $66,000 per year

  1. Congrats on your Georgetown acceptance. The package you printed out was very comprehensive, but I don't know if you filled it out right. Didn't you have to submit any financial papers like the CSS profile to get an early estimate of aid?
  2. You said you filled out the FAFSA4caster but you didn't tell us the result. This is the for sure way to know if you are eligible for Pell, if you use 2014 data or if the 2013 results are basically unchanged. (You can't work hard for a scholarship you aren't eligible for, that makes no sense!)
  3. Your parents cannot wait to fill out taxes. They need to do it as soon as they can if there isn't a particular obstacle. There many be significant money so it is not something to be lax about. If they cannot complete taxes now or Feb 1 when W2's are due from employers, then you need to do a tax worksheet for best estimates (use 2013 as a guideline) and fill the FAFSA based on the info that they do have for 2014. Then you update fafsa after taxes are done. It is not very hard to do the FAFSA.

If you are planning to go to American University…WHY are you doing the Georgetown NPC?

American University is an early decision school. If you have been accepted there, you already should have received your estimated American University financial aid award. What was THAT?

Georgetown is early action. You won’t be getting their financial aid award before you need to make up your mind about American University’s ED offer.

So…what’s the story? Have you declined the American University ED offer of acceptance? Or are you trying to figure out if Georgetown will have less of a net price?

If comparing financial aid offers was a high priority, you should have aoolied RD to American.

What is your ACT and or SAT score?

In post number 6, you say you have been accepted to American University. If you already know about this acceptance…it would, have to be an early decision acceptance as they don’t have early action. So please clarify how you have already been accepted at American if it’s not via Early Decision.

And in your first post in this thread, you say you are planning to go to Amaerican U.

So why are you doing the net price calculators for Georgetown?

We’re a family of 4 with an income several thousand less than the $66k you list for your parents, and our estimated Pell is about $1100, not the full amount you listed. Are you sure you’re filling out the forms correctly?

Is this $66K the family’s AGI, or gross wages/income? I believe the Pell eligibility is based on AGI (assuming minimal assets). Still, even if AGI is lower, it shouldn’t result in a large Pell; maybe a small one.

When I had an AGI just above that range (family of 4, one in college), our EFC was 16k, nowhere near eligible for a Pell grant. You’re going to have to submit the FAFSA and see what pops out.
