i revisited the website and watched the video (it seems so fun omg) but it said that they wanted students who dont know they want to be engineers yet. i think i seemed too enthusiastic about engineering and talked about prior experiences so i dont think ill be able to make it in now also 60/500 is a 12% acceptance rate which is pretty low
@lshaynal I watched that video too and it made me really excited for the program… I really do hope I get in. It would be an amazing experience. I took an Intro to Engineering Design class in sophomore year, and I really hope that doesn’t count as too much engineering exposure We didn’t do anything in that class besides figure out how to use 3D modeling software ourselves (the teacher was no help) and learn how to draw straight lines (aka what we spent an entire semester doing).
However, I do know a girl who got in for ME after taking AP Compsci, which certainly seems like a lot of “engineering” exposure to me.
The wait is forever!!!
@tonystarkofwinterfell I also took an intro programming class and applied to ME. I’ve heard stories from friends about AP Comp Sci girls getting in, and then AP Comp Sci girls getting rejected (just to use that as an example of “engineering” experience). I hope it boils down to more than just our “engineering” experience.
If things line up with last year, we should be getting our results around April 22.
The website says we will get an email response on April 28
Thank you for the update @chillkitty
I’m excited and nervous :o
Hi! If any of you guys already knows where you are going, could you please withdraw your application from WTP? Thanks
@angie414 I’m excited and nervous as well !
We’ve been waiting since January? I wonder why it takes this long…
The video was interesting, but what made me excited for the program was reading this blog => https://lifeofacityhobbit.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/2015/06/27/takeoffs-landings-settling-in-mit-wtp-day-1/
@artsciencefood oh my god now you’ve made me fall even more in love with the program (especially since I’m applying ME rip) .-. Which sucks, because the acceptance rate is so low this year that I probably won’t get in
@artsciencefood @tonystarkwinterfell ahhh same!! I applied ME as well. I really can’t help but fall in love more in more with WTP even knowing that the odds are not in my favor :,( I’ve already been rejected from all the other programs I’ve applied to (though they were all super selective so I was prepared for it).
Do you guys know of any programs that I can still apply to or just have any general suggestions as to what I could do over the summer? I really love math and science, but the research opportunities in my area are quite scarce (as a HS student in a lab and stuff). I’m looking for internships, but I’m unsure about the availability of those either.
Samee @tauisgood. All the other programs I applied to (and have been rejected from) were super, super selective, so now I’m low-key freaking out because I have two decisions left I’m probably going to try and email professors, to be honest–I’m compiling a list right now. You could also try and register for community college classes? & some government science agencies allow volunteer internships.
I requested an early decision. Rejected. Now, officially HSHSP, SSP, and WTP have all rejected me… I was pretty confident to start with, but now, after reading the stats of people who got in these programs, I feel better… Those people are insanely qualified.
I’m so sorry @yawninglion! I’m sure you’ll still have a great summer (:
@tonystarkofwinterfell I’m glad you enjoyed the blog as much as I did! However, I must admit the acceptance rate is scaring me…
@tauisgood I feel the same… I can’t help but fall in love with WTP
This also reminds me that I got rejected earlier this year for a selective summer program in engineering. Most of us are (pretty much) all in the same situation.
@yawninglion I’m quite confused. I thought WTP didn’t have an early decision (?) And please where can I find those statistics?
@artsciencefood you can ask them for a rushed decision if you need to commit to another summer program or something, so they’ll tell you whether you were accepted or not early.
Asdf I know I should start making other summer plans because I’m probably not going to be accepted to WTP (or the other program I’m waiting for), but I’m really reluctant because there’s this part of me that’s asking what would happen if I did manage to get into a program.
I just spent all morning reading all the WTP posts on that blog and I need to go study for APs .-.
@tonystarkofwinterfell thank you for the advice! I really appreciate it.
It’s good to know that we’re all sharing similar emotions XD with AP exams/SAT2s coming up, my mind is flying everywhere and it really isn’t helping that all the summer program decisions come out so late.
I’ll probably regret asking this, but what has the acceptance rate been in the past years? (I know it is somewhere in the single digits…)
@tonystarkofwinterfell Thank you for clarifying! I was not aware of that. That reminds me that I also have APs to study for as well
If any of you guys find another similar summer program, please share here
@tauisgood Acceptance rate for WTP? The previous year about 400 people applied (if I remember correctly) so there was a 15% acceptance rate last year.
^Yeah, and this year they said around 500 people applied, so the acceptance rate is 12%? But I’m afraid my chances are a bit reduced because I applied for only ME
I am going to UF SSTP this summer (: decent. I almost started looking at college summer classes
