<li>greatest accomplishment? Finshed a marathon as a completely out of shape 17 year old!</li>
<li>greatest failure? haha, according to my parents, EVERYTHING. According to me…maybe losing my run for NHS vice-prez? Nah. I don’t think I have a greatest failure. I could care less about failing.</li>

<li>greatest accomplishment?Last weekend I went to the homecoming dance, got on a giant red coach bus at midnight, drove 5 hours through the night, and competed in a figure skating competition on 2 hours of sleep. And the best part is… we WON (before driving 5 hours home - 19 hours overall and still making up the sleep loss)</li>
<li>greatest failure?9th grade gym class… basketball… 5 out of 20 shots = F (later she rounded me up to 10 - it made it a high F)</li>

Is making me want to go to Yale even more, maybe just because I would love to meet some of you who sound particularly interesting and intelligent.

I’m pretty sure this conversation is over, but I loved both Everything Is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I thought both novels had their own merits to them, and this is besides the postmodernist ‘gimmicks’ from which most of the criticism stems.

Anyway. :)

<li>Mainly indie rock, but I am fairly into the techno scene and do not shy away from folk, punk, or good ol’ classical (though my listening is not nearly as advanced as I’d like it to be). I also like pop and the occasional angry German band with killer basslines.</li>

<li>Being done with the most part of high school melodrama by the end of middle school.</li>

<li>Allowing myself to fail, or failing without grace.</li>

I thought EL&IC (I am abbreviating because the name is just too long for its own good) could have been a good book, but it fell short. And then I read the History of Love and realized, wow, this is everything that EL&IC wanted to be. It was strange to find out that she was married to JSF. However, the whole Foer family makes me incredibly jealous. All three Foer brothers are incredibly smart and successful, and everytime I read about another one of them (or see their name printed as the author of the article I’m reading), I think, “Why can’t that be meeeee?”

Maybe it has to do something with personal preference? I remember not liking History of Love as much as either of Foer’s novels, which could have been caused by its striking similarity in subject matter.

NAVAL ARCHITECT. This is probably what I’ll do anyways… I want to design wooden sailboats (on my own and taking commissions) and maybe build some just for fun. I’ve already designed boats and started building one but nothing serious. I plan to build either a 28’ or 42’ cruising boat (someone else’s design) while I’m in college… it’ll probably take me a few years though… </li>

One of many fun facts: when I read books and there is no one else around me, I try to act out certain actions the characters do or the way they say things. For example: “Jack scratched his head and bit his lip. ‘I wonder what that means,’ he said in his characteristic accent.” I will look both ways before proceeding to scratch my head and bite my lip before saying “I wonder what that means” in Jack’s characteristic accent. It draws me into the book and the characters’ heads. I only do this if I’m alone, though. :|</li>

I’m actually a senior at Penn, and although someone in an earlier post claims to have posted this on the Penn board, it seems to be deader than Kendra’s career after leaving Girls Next Door (my housemates watch it, don’t ask). I listen to mostly non-country music, but my mother plays the stuff all the time in her car, and if you give it a chance it’s really not that bad. And mainstream country, like every other genre, sounds generic. I would think it would be far to say that there is some good indie country out there, waiting for you to discover it. ;)
