Yale 2023 Applicants Discussion

Hello all future applicants! I am also planning on applying for the class of 2023 and probably even going the SCEA route. I just had a quick question and would love some opinions. Since Yale has the score policy of sending all scores, will it look really bad if I send in 5 SAT scores? I know this is a bit excessive but two of the exams I took in freshman year to get into a selective high school and one I had to take because my school required it. Only two exams were taken with the intent of sending them to colleges. Do you think this will affect my chances of getting in? Thanks in advance!

Do you mean the class of 2024 because the class of 2023 has already been selected/admitted? Just curious if your 5 SATs were all within a 10-20 point range of each other? And that’s unfortunate for a high school admission test they formally requested two SAT exams. I’m not sure I have heard of that but maybe it’s a common practice, I don’t know.

@apparently22 yeah my bad lol I meant 2024 (ap exams have got me brain dead). They were not that close but my best score was a 1580. And for the thigh school admission, they only technically required one test but I took it twice to improve on my score. Do you think that would have any negative impact?

Taking the test 5 times in my opinion is not a positive, however, it would also show that you took it over the course of 3-4 years (8th -11th grades?) as opposed to 5 times junior year. This is a question best answered by your college counseling folks at school. Of course your high school is one of the reasons you’ve taken it so many times. Having an SAT exam serve as a high school entrance exam is overkill (imo)

See Yale’s FAQ section on standardized testing: https://admissions.yale.edu/faq/standardized-testing#t186n1776

That said, I think taking the SAT five times might raise an eyebrow. As such, ask your guidance counselor if they can address the issue in their secondary school report. This is a much better approach than suppling your own explanation, because as a general rule Admissions Officers tend believe the adult in a supervisory capacity over that of a student.

any updates/info on the waitlist? it’s been pretty much radio silence for me

Someone on reddit claimed they got a call about 20 minutes ago, but since it’s a post on an anonymous forum take that how you will.

My Son was on the waitlist and received an email yesterday from the admissions director asking him to call. He called at 4:00 pm on Wednesday to see what was up and was offered a spot at Yale. His financial aid package is supposed to be here by tomorrow and he has until next Friday to make a decision.

@hammer510 Congratulations!! Can you please share whether your son submitted any additional information (awards, transcripts, recommendation letters)? Thank you!

He did not submit additional material but was waitlisted ED. His application essays were ok. Below are his application details.

I assume you mean he applied SCEA and was deferred.

No, I’m sorry. He was Regular Decision and waitlisted. However, he’s currently signed up to dual-degree at UPenn SEAS.

This may be an incredibly stupid question but is it too late to send a LOCI?

Is anyone getting off waitlist? I thought by now they should have either accepted or rejected…

It can take up until June for final decisions to go out.

Will you please be able to share your extra curricular? Thank you!

S received rejection this morning
