Yale Class of 2019 SCEA Discussion Thread

@paleselan‌ I was joking when I told that you weren’t so funny :)

It is unusual that Yale doesn’t send you an email saying that “Hello, results are ready. Come and check”. Harvard, Princeton and Duke to which I appliued last year does send you that sort of message

If it says December 16 at 5:00, then that’s what it is and it’s not going to change. Sorry guys. I know each of you want to know so badly. Been there, done that.

Also, the Committee can and does make decisions right up to the last minute. It is over a week until decisions come out so trust me they are still sitting around going over applications. So, if you have an interview today, there is plenty of time for it to be taken into consideration. There may be some in the Yes pile already, and some in the No, but there are probably many that are still in the debate pile - Yes, No or Defer.

do normal people ever get in to these schools?

@DaisyBlue, yes, many parents like to think of our kids as “normal.”
They aren’t average, but most of the are normal.

yes of course  @IxnayBob‌

Do anyone know if the consoler can make changes to the recommendation letter for RD schools after the submission for early action?

@Crimsonred‌ Yes, they can. However, unless there is some major change, most will not.

My consoler mentioned Yale in my recommendation letter for SCEA… Now that I want to apply for RD schools and consoler told me she couldn’t find edit button anymore :(

Does your school use Naviance?

My kid is normal. She thinks stuff is awkward, throws shade, likes One Direction, texts and Snapchats with her besties, has a secret crush on an upper classman, is participating in protests going in now on campus and can’t wait to come home for Christmas to see her dog. Yes, they’re normal teens.

Hi, does anyone know whether the interview report would appear on the Eli account?
Would it tell you if the interview report has arrived?
Thx

No, I don’t think its there and you won’t be informed of whether it was received or not.

Does anyone know if those who are deferred SCEA have a higher chance of getting in during the RD round?

I think I remember reading a statistic that 7% of deferred people get in RD, so although it’s slightly higher by a fraction of a point, it’s not much to speculate over.

Oh ok. Could I know where you got that statistic?

<a href=“Percent deferred then accepted - Yale University - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/1028643-percent-deferred-then-accepted.html</a> post 4. It’s not an official statistic though.

I’m still thinking the 16th (Tuesday) might be an oversight, though probably not. Apparently two years ago (class of 2017) Yale’s SCEA decisions came out a bit earlier than expected, and here’s the schedule for some other colleges this year (as posted on various sites):

Thursday 12/11: Harvard, Brown, Duke
Friday 12/12: Stanford, Johns Hopkins
Saturday (!) 12/13: MIT
Monday 12/15: Penn, Princeton, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, Georgetown, Northwestern

No point in worrying about it now, it’ll come out eventually. I’d rather expect the 16th and then be surprised if it comes out earlier.

@sumobats‌ - Thanks!
