@kuriosmind I also am debating about whether to check before our school’s holiday pageant. 120 people in my grade as well! I suppose I won’t be able to help but look at the portal before the pageant begins, but it might be hard to process while sitting with all my classmates.
Querida Yo Del Futuro,
Felicitaciones!! I knew you could do it! All your hard work has paid off!! Enjoy California’s sunny weather while you can!
Boola Boola!
Con mucho amor,
Yo Del Presente
I actually scared/depressed myself awake by having dreams of being deferred. It’s almost 2am and I can’t get back to sleep. So close guys!!!
3 am EST and I’m finally joining this thread, hah - leave it to my teachers to pile work on the weekend before decisions arrive. Good luck to everybody! To quote an awfully cheesy movie: “we’re all in this together.”
Can’t fall asleep :,(
Less than 8 hours left!!!
I wonder if ice cream sales go up around this time of the year and early April haha…
Good luck to you all. I have enjoyed watching your journey and wish you all the best. Your future letters are wonderful and I truly hope that you take a lot of your self messages to heart.
I want to share with you my daughter’s story. She is currently a freshman at Yale but she applied SCEA to Harvard last year. She was in your shoes on a different thread and she was just as anxious, nervous and frustrated. She too did everything she could possibly do for her application. She had dreamed of Harvard from the time she was 9. But on the day the results were released, she found herself deferred and forced to apply somewhere else. She did not want to apply to Yale. She had liked the campus and the environment of Yale when we visited but she was determined to get out of CT as we live here. This time frame during the wait for RD results was not just emotionally painful for her but it caused her to really look into her reasons for wanting H in the first place. It was just a dream she had kept since she was 9. She had a few months to wait it out for RD so she spent that time researching student climate, social environment and even what the layout of the campus was like. In the end she wanted Yale more than she ever wanted Harvard because of what the school had to offer and who she was in relation to that. By the time RD came around, she had rated her top schools as Yale,Georgetown,Boston College, Harvard, Brown and Tufts in that order. She was accepted to all of the above except Harvard who put her on a waitlist.
You are all so focused on this one prize and I understand that but take the time to explore the other options and figure out where you truly belong. If you do not get the answer you want today, it may be because you are just looking down the wrong path. Allow yourself to look in other directions. She is absolutely in love with Yale now. I wont lie- there is nothing she dislikes about it and I know that doesn’t help your stress. But imagine if she dwelled on the deferral she received a year ago?
My very best wishes to you all!
Ugh I feel like I’m suffocating. 7 hours left…
I made a countdown timer for the decision
Dear Future Self,
You are amazingly unique and precious.
The future is bright because of the commitment and resilience you have to better yourself and the world around you. Keep your passion for learning and continue your efforts to be a better global citizen each and every single day.
May the Lord continue to protect you and bless you with courage and endurance to thrive towards your dreams at the university with best fit for YOU!
Te Amo,
Yourself today.
Good luck today y’all! matched through QB so I already know. but still nervous for the rest of you guys! Fingers crossed! :)>-
Yale still hasn’t closed the portal. Does that mean our decision is already on there, but we just can’t see it right now? I’m super excited/nervous for our decisions!!!
Dear Future Self,
Whatever happens today know that you are capable of such great things and, though a rejection here will no doubt be a big bump in the road, you will overcome it and, in the end, succeed. Do not think a poor result here is at all indicative of your potential or passion or self-worth, because it just isn’t.
Everything happens for a reason.

Dear Future Self,
By the time you read this you will already know Yale’s decision. If you are accepted, congratulations! You have worked really hard for this and I am sure you will make a wonderful Yalie. You can relax now. Go celebrate! Enjoy your holiday, spend time with you friends and family. But mostly, be grateful. Acknowledge that you have been offered a great opportunity and you should thank all the people that have contributed to this, from teachers and counselors to friends and family that have supported you in the application process.
If you are rejected, listen to me! Breathe. It’s not the end of the world even if it might seem so right now. This decision does not reflect you worth. Yale is a high reach for everyone, and the fact that they didn’t accept you is only an indicator that there are too many qualified applicants and they are looking for something ELSE, not something BETTER. You will find your dream school. You will end up where it is best for you. Don’t lose hope just because one school didn’t want you. You are applying to so many wonderful universities, fall in love with another one. If Yale doesn’t feel like you would fit, it just means that there is another place that would be a better fit with your personality and interests. I know you are disappointed and won’t listen to anyone right now. But please, understand that this is not a reflection of how good you are. You’ve done things with passion and you will continue to do so no matter where you will be next year. Breathe. Inhale. Exhale. You will be successful anywhere, you will have four great years at another college. Just go eat some chocolate and go to sleep. Tomorrow, wake up happy. Don’t think about it. It’s over.
If you are deferred. Ugh… I know you hate that you have to wait so much. But keep in mind that you are being offered another chance. Update Yale with your grades and activities, but also spend time working on other applications. Write meaningful essays. Work hard. Eventually, you will see that it will turn out for the best, even if Yale says no in March. Get your mind off of it. Do not feel let down. I know it’s hard, but realize that they wanted a second look. If you are not rejected, it means something got them interested in your application in the fist place.
Regardless of the decision, keep your head up. Yes, a lot of people will ask you about it tomorrow. Feel free to tell them the decision and not discuss it if that’s what you want. Keep doing what you love. Life goes on. This too shall pass.
You will be fine. You will end up where you belong, whether that is Yale or another school.
Believe in yourself.
Love,
You from 5 hours ago
