Yale Class of 2020 applicants

@yalebound2020 the security presence was also a big selling point for both Georgetown and Yale. Yale is security overkill and it is absolutely comforting to a mom. I did not get to tour Georgetown with my daughter but my dad said that he felt she would have been safe there. They talked all the time about what was offered for security there. Harvard on the other hand made me very uncomfortable during the evening when we were there. We went every summer from the time she was 9 so it was multiple visits over time. Although Yale is in New Haven and that city has its own issues, there is so much security all the time that you never feel alone. And again, the community feeling has a comfort in itself as well.

@Memmsmom - The first time I was at Yale on a sport recruiting trip I thought there was TOO MUCH security. When we walked into the main library there were 6 -or more- security personnel to greet us. At the Law Library, the guard on duty asked me more questions than TSA to an arrival from Syria : ) That’s something that makes parents extremely happy. Again, thanks for sharing your experiences. They are quite helpful.

I don’t mean to be a buzzkill, but my mom and I visited this summer, and literally walked by a drug deal in broad daylight in the middle of campus. There were also plenty of homeless people wandering around nearby. It was a huge turn off for my mom. I’m hoping it was an isolated incident, maybe it gets safer during the school year… We didn’t see any security on campus at all.

@Memmsmom I’m an international applicant who only had time to visit one university (Dartmouth for a rugby camp) so I’m applying not knowing what the campuses ‘feel’ like. So thank you for sharing your experiences and how you and your daughter felt. And like you said, these are all great schools academically so its the ‘little things’ that differentiate them. Yale has an excellent/growing rugby program so with the closer community and higher school spirit you mentioned, I think it would be a really good fit for me if I get in. Thanks again!

@yalebound2020 what sport? Cannot find your stats … did u have a different user name…what forum thread? Rowing is my interest…mostly singles…

@LasagneMoodAF…what is Princeton’s Rugby like…have an older relative who play eons ago…

@TStark2016 they’re not very good at the moment tbh. But they’re not and either and I’ve met the coach and he seems really serious and passionate about their program so I’m sure they’ll only improve.

Did everyone here submit their financial aid required materials ?

Hello all around two weeks to go? I got deferred from early round, so waiting on that.

@beaglee105 Faxed mine over a couple of weeks ago. I’m an international student so I emailed them just to make sure they got them

Yale admissions officers keep sending me questions about my application. Does this mean that they’re interested in me? The first time they wanted to know about my AP scores. The next time I got an e-mail from the admissions director asking me to tell her more about one of the classes I’m taking (its a class that is unique to my high school).
Is this a good sign ?

was there anything special about your AP scores?

@ozymandias2020 no I just didn’t report them

@ksinke97 Definitely! I mean logically thinking, why would they bother wanting to know more about you if you were already buried in the rejection pile? Any specific questions asked this late in the process means you are not rejected yet, which is nice :slight_smile:

@ksinke97 - that much attention? You must have something that caught their eye. Good! Otherwise, they would think "she didn’t even completed the APs i.e. no attention to detail, etc. Are you legacy? Discovered a cure for a malady?

@yalebound2020 lol you make me laugh! I’m by no means a stellar applicant like I have a lot of leader ship and extracurricular activities and a 3.9 but sat scores sucked. I really liked my essays though maybe they see something in that? :slight_smile:

How many of you checked the Yale NUS box? The results will be out in a few hours.

@rahuilmars231 Few hours?! Really??

@ksinke97 Hey just curious, when did they contact you about this last?

@rahuilmars231 - Checked the box but didn’t bother doing anything extra for NUS because, tbh, would really not like to spend the next four years in Singapore.
