I’m totally feeling “lack-of-control” anxiety. It’s actually as stupid as the following: I’m afraid that I’ve made a million mistakes on my App even though I checked it a thousand times, and i’m even more afraid of checking it for the 1001st time cause I might actually find another error and it’s too late to fix it now…

There are at least two mistakes on mine. The computer kept cutting the last letter off things…so I guess my mom went to the Michigan State University School of “Medicin” and I go to North Central High “Schoo”

Hopefully they can figure it out. :)

Yeah, mine is screwing up a bit, too, but not as badly as yours, Gorbachev…The computer just won’t indent the paragraphs, and when I try to do it manually by just inserting spaces, it messes the format up…I’ve somehow managed to fix most of it, but the opening paragraph just won’t cooperate…

Sighs One essay and one short answer down, one supplemental essay to go…

Everyone I’ve asked has told me not to indent paragraphs, just double space between them. Indenting messes up the code or something, and it comes out weird.

Ahhhh, thanks! Lol, what would I do without CC?

Haha, no prob.

Now I have a question…

I studied abroad during my junior year. My college counselor (at my normal school in the states) recommended that I get 2 letters of recommendation from each school. Do you think that’s a good idea or not? I don’t want my application to be too cluttered…but she says it’s worthwhile because they will present different viewpoints. She really knows her stuff, and she was an admissions officer before she became a counselor at our HS. Any opinions on this? Should I send in 4 letters? It seems a little much…but I don’t know…

That’s so cool! I’ve always wanted to live abroad.

I agree that you should get letters of recommendation from both schools, but if you’re worried about a cluttered app you can do one from each, or two from your home school and one from abroad. Was it in an area where people speak fluent English? That’s one consideration. (My favorite teacher is from Russia and she doesn’t have that good a grasp of English grammar. Really knows her Physics, but couldn’t write a letter for me).

I would personally choose to send two from the US school and one from abroad–just enough to give the flavor of your personality but not to overemphasize the “I studied in a foreign country! I add diversity!” part. Although it’s true.

Mmm, I think you should listen to her. She seems competent, and I can understand her argument; getting recs from teachers at a school abroad would really present different viewpoints. If you still think its too cluttered, then send in 3 recs instead of 4 (I’ve heard of acceptees that have done this). Aah, I envy you the opportunity, it would have been amazing to study abroad!

Living in India was absolutely amazing, and the teacher who wrote me recs were more than competent (both in their subjects and in English). I haven’t read the letters, though, so I don’t know if they are different or special or anything. Maybe I’ll ask my college counselor to read them over, and then she can decide. It’s just that I’m also sending in a research abstract, so I don’t want to overdo it on the supplementary materials.

i’m getting nervous since i’m so behind on my app. i just gave my teachers/gc the rec forms last week, and all of you are already worrying about your submitted apps! ahh! :(

Hahaha…cherish the control while you have it. Because once you let go of your app, the real stress begins…

On an entirely unrelated note, has anyone else read the play Equus by Peter Shaffer? If you haven’t, you must go out and buy a copy RIGHT NOW because it is the most amazing thing ever written. They said it would blow my mind, and I didn’t believe them. Well now my mind is blown. Amazing.

dont worry, mines not sent. in fact, i still dont know where im applying early. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

You’re not applying early to Yale???
:(

Equus is about a crazy guy and horses, right? I faintly remember seeing it done in forensics :P

On another note, I decided to early Yale. :)

as it stands tonight (im the worst at making decisions. EVER), im applying early to harvard.

i love this thread and hope that im not banished from it.
good luck all!!
(on the bright side, i can now hope for the best for you all, and vice versa, without any sense of competition)
in the end, cambridge won me over. i still love yale, and it was a brutal decision.
[though i dont have school till thursday, so its still slightly up in the air…no. bad. stop it. no. maybe.] [[i need a therapist]]

i just looked at the harvard ea thread. its so boring…i miss yale already
:(

Well, either way. On one hand, it would be nice to meet you at Yale (if we get in). On the other hand…well…the less competition, the better. :)

I’m not applying here. I thought you should know.

Agh, whenicomearound…you’ve gone to the other side! That’s okay. Boston rocks; New Haven sucks. I’m not ashamed to admit that. Honestly, if Yale was transplanted to Cambridge and I got in, I would never want to die, because there’s no way heaven could match that level of perfection And heck, you might end up at Yale anyway through RD. You never know.

Anyone still in essay writing mode?? Hope I’m not the only one…
