yale EA ppl

okay this is way off topic but still – do any of you guys hate the awkwardness of the “where are you applying to college” question? Of course a lot of Yalies etc. have commented on the awkwrdness of the “where are you going to college” question, but in my opinion the applying one is worse because you know everyone (or a lot of people) are sizing you up and thinking “oh so he/she thinks their good enough to get into Yale” and its just so awkward! i usually just say that i dont know yet and i need to visit more schools, when in reality ive visited eight and the ony school im visiting in the fall is yale again, this stime to stay with a friend. So… after that long rant, can anyone else identify?

yeah…yale is definitely my first choice but i everytime someone asks me im like “mumble mumble still deciding mumble”… i really hate jinxing myself and the admission numbers are crazy. next time someone asks, im just going to make up a college, like the college of the penguins or something and then if they ask about it, get really defensive and start singing the school song.

filmxoxo17,
I totally understand! I don’t like to lie entirely about my ambition so I always say my first choice is Yale but to avoid sounding too snobby I always add, “or the University of (some random state)” so I don’t sound too full of myself. My philosophy is that with every top 25 school I mention, I must mention an average state school. I hate that I can’t just say “YALE!!!” without sounding snobby, but under this system I can at least admit to applying.

Totally!
The only people I feel ok talking to about college are people who are in the IB program with me…because they’re all applying to the same caliber of school. But with everyone else, I feel like I have to say Indiana University. When I say “Yale” people think I’m a snob.

I can totally relate to the “snob” problem. However, at my school application is always way too “public.” That is, sooner or later the rumor spreads and pretty much everyone knows which colleges everybody else is applying to. This is especially true about the EA/ED people, so there’s no way I can keep it a secret, as much as I’d like to. Tough luck.

i thought i wrote this earlier, guess not. i totally feel the same way about telling people where i’m applying… people keep asking me what im doing this summer. i say, “visiting colleges.” they say “where?” i say, “i don’t know yet.” or, sometimes, “just the SUNYs, etc.”

ok, so, someone console me. am i the only one who hasn’t looked yet at the application? i mentioned this earlier, and it’s even more disconcerting now… especially after seeing “read my essay” posts in all these forums.

Today I told a friend of mine that I was applying to Yale, and she just gave me this look that basically said “What the f*** is wrong with you?” It was really awkward.

I’m actually pretty comfortable telling people that I wanna go to Yale. Most people in my grade are applying to Stanford/MIT/Harvard, and other schools of similar caliber. However, I do include UC schools sometimes.

Rikataka: I personally have looked at the application, but that’s about it. I tried to force myself to write some essays…didn’t work. Unfortunately, I’m one of these people who can only write under pressure. In other words, as long as I still have time, I’ll procrastinate. Always.
So, you’re not alone.

im a craaaazy procrastinator

“im a craaaazy procrastinator”

Welcome to the club then;)

Wow…I’m gone for less than a week, and this thread has grown a lot! Yes, jhudora, I’ve seen the trailer, it was amazing! I think I saw it during the previews for War of the Worlds, but I can’t quite remember. Oh, filmxoxo17, I’m dying for Memoirs of a Geisha, too! I read the book about a year ago, and a few months I read up on the 'net that they were making a movie. I almost died! The book is so sad at parts, I felt really sorry for Nobu at times. We all can identify with unrequited love sighs.

i’m usually a procrastinator about stuff i don’t care about (like everyday schoolwork  ) but I jumped on the Yale app as soon as possible, neglecting other apps in the process.

i procrastinate.

i also feel awkward when ppl ask me where i’m applying early.

someone want to think of a new question?

i didn’t introduce myself. hello.

fave music: i have weird taste. i listen to a lot of classical stuff and esp stuff for wind ensembles, a lot of rock. rap is cool, not a major fan of country.
tv: family guy
book: hm. phantom tollbooth :stuck_out_tongue: ? sword of shannara series? the martian chronicles? tough to say.
oh yeah, I’m from New York, a little bit north of the city. :]

Um, a new question: what’s your favorite drink?!

oh yeah, I need to add myself to the roster:

whenicomearound

muyloca57

evad

richard (probably)

wrathofgod64

gorbachev_sez

hope

filmxoxo17

the bard lives

dualanya.

Rikataka

one more thing. about my name- i made it when I was trying to perfect double tonguing on the trumpet. my teacher told me to repeat syllables, esp. ti-ka / tu-ku over and over again. um, actually now that I think of it, I’m not sure how I came up with Rikataka. I guess it was an offshoot of me practicing syllables or something.

Ok, favorite drink…
Banana lassi!!!

For those not familiar, head out to your local Indian restaurant. Amazing.

ah, but Mango Lassi will always be my favorite  Indian food in general is amazing (I would know tho, cuz I’m indian)

Really? Where are you from in India?
I was there all of last year!
