Hopefully I will have a better outcome in the spring!

[] Teacher Recs: glowing. I got all top in career etc, plus I got a suppl. rec from my PI (my boss) at work. He happens to be a professor at Yale. [li] Gender: (un)luck be a lady[/li][/ul]Other Factors: First-ever junior as editor-in-chief of the paper. Editor-in-chief for two consecutive years after asst. editor-in-chief title sophomore year. Reconstucted newspaper into a more frequent and reader-friendly publication. French, Italian, Latin scholar. Statewide debate champion. Theater kid. Creator of selective and now-outstanding schoolwide chamber choir; high-scoring soprano at All-State choir festival. etc. lots of ECs. General Comments: Honestly, I thought I was going to get in. It was a big disappointment when I was deferred, especially because Yale has been such an integral part of my life already, and I’m not even a student there (yet).

I work in a lab at Yale on a volunteer basis during the summer and for short bits of time during the schoolyear. Also, my dad is chief of one of the sections at Yale. Although I myself live 25 minutes from downtown New Haven, my town is about 10 miles long; New Haven is at the southern tip, and I live at the northern tip. Therefore, I go to a public school directly outside New Haven, which every year sends at least one or two kids to Yale.

Anyway, we’ll see what happens. Congrats to you guys who have the worry taken off your back already re: college and Yale.

Subjective:

* Essays: Both unusual writing style, one sort of bitter but moving on ballet, one quirky on a train ride to school
Teacher Recs: One great, one I have no idea
Counselor Rec: Probably good, but I’m not sure how good. She has hundreds of students, but she knows me more personally.
Hook (if any): BALLET, lots, and lots, and lots, at a very high level. Most people at the level I used to perform don’t go to college and go to companies, so I suppose that in college applicant pool’s talent in this area is usually fairly low. Also, it’s rare for ballet kids to be good in academics, since most serious students don’t go to school (yes, even at age 15) at all. I took half days of school junior and senior year to combat that problem.

General Comments:
Congratulations to everyone who got in! Good luck to those who got deferred, and I’m sure those of you who got rejected, it was Yale’s screwup. You’ll all do great; little things like this barely matter in the grand scheme of things.
