Yale College may alter its fact-checking processes for applicants during the 2025-26 admissions cycle, administrators said, in light of the recent removal of a first-year student who a Yale College spokesperson said included false information on her Yale application.
“We have a vetting process, and we may be ramping it up a little bit next year,” Lewis said. “We’ll probably do more of those calls next year.”
Earlier this month, Yale rescinded the admission of a Davenport College first-year after determining that she submitted falsified information on her application. In a move that sent shockwaves across campus, the student was escorted from her Old Campus dorm on Sept. 19 by Head of College Anjelica Gonzalez and an armed police officer.
Don’t know if what is posted on instagram by 05chrs is true or accurate, but if it is, its …. disturbing. Glad they caught the “student” and did the right thing.
Now you made us curious. What’s the alleged reason for the removal?
Am I allowed to link it?
Sure.
Hang on I have to find it again
Here is the original story about the removal of the student:
It gives limited info.
Confirms some of what was said in the Insta video:
”On move-in day last month, Lynn arrived unaccompanied with only one suitcase, according to Sara Bashker ’29, a suitemate who was present at the time.
“She seemed a bit quiet and reserved at the beginning,” Bashker said.
Lynn initially said she was from North Dakota. On the Yale Face Book, where Lynn remained listed on Sunday night, her address corresponds to that of a hotel in the small town of Tioga, N.D.
Bashker said that at different points during her time at Yale, Lynn also mentioned residing in California, China and Canada.
Bashker recounted returning from orientation programs and gathering with the rest of her suitemates to discuss their first-year experiences so far. While Bashker and her other suitemates talked about their crushes and romantic interests, Lynn said she had a boyfriend in his 30s who lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, Bashker said.
Bashker recalled that Lynn said she was in a “BDSM relationship” in which she played a dominant role over the man. Bashker estimated that Lynn was on the phone with her partner for three to four hours a day at Yale.”
Yes that sure has more than some of the initial limited info, thanks
Looks like there is no public information on that beyond unspecified falsified admission credentials.
The Yale Daily News page linked in post #8 seems to be the source of information in the Instagram video.
Or the other way around… ? Or a little of both. The follow-up article (follow up here, that is) from the YDN is much more comprehensive.
The Instagram video shows quotes and screen shots from the Yale Daily News page, so the latter is more likely the original source.
Often, on this forum, many of us have told applicants to be honest, not to exaggerate, etc. You never know when these falsehoods will come to haunt you.
So folks…whatever the reason is here for this Yale student….you don’t want it to be you. Be totally honest about what your have done, where you are from…everything.
Honestly really is the best policy. And it’s something colleges value (as does society in general…in most cases).
And probably most of it is. But the YDN didn’t mention that she acted weird and didn’t shower. That came from the roommates. No matter. She is gone.
FWIW, the more comprehensive article @momofboiler1 linked was dated Sept. 22. The instagram was 4 days ago (so Sept 26) so this news was all over campus by then (and subsequent to the more comprehensive article that @momofboiler1 linked.) The original YDN article, in the first post here, interestingly enough, is the most recent (dated today) but the most brief.
I’m not seeing anything specific in that extract that explains what she falsified? There might be some gossipy stuff there and in the IG video but there is no concrete information beyond “she faked her entire identity “? Did I miss something? Not showering and sexual preferences are not reasons for being rescinded, surely.
Not really. As per the info published in today’s article, the school is refusing to offer details about what exactly she falsified:
Quinlan did not answer the News’ questions about what information the student falsified on her application, how the fabrication was discovered or how the admissions office will strengthen its verification processes for applications.
And, I’m glad to hear that Yale (and hopefully others) will ramp up on some fact checking, too.
