Fact checking - My son is a freshman at Yale. When he applied REA last year, the AO called both his HS counselor and one of his recommenders and verified everything from ECs to awards, etc. Yale is actually known for personally making fact-check calls. However, they don’t do it for every “about to get a Yes” applicant. I don’t know if its random or certain flags. My guess is that starting this year, they might do it for everyone.

Or they might do so after matriculation (rather than on application or admission), since the volume would be smaller.

Given their high yield, I’d see them doing it for those they’re planning to admit.
