Yale-NUS Round 2 Interviews

@HouseI: No, I didn’t apply to anywhere else in Singapore. I only applied to YN because Yale had the extra option and because they visited my school. I was the only one from my school other than our token college center representative to go to the presentation, so I got a chance to ask a lot of questions about YN. The other place I applied to in Asia was HKU, because I’m Cantonese and of Hong Kong descent.

No email, but I’m not really surprised… the more days pass, the more I start to lose hope. :/

@thesmiter, the idea of going to YN is really hot. It is exciting, bright but untouchable ! Anyways, heads up, better try than never try. I have applied to only Malaysia and singapore, although i live so far away. I have always wondered (for the past three week), what would have happened if i sent my application to Yale. Right now, i don’t see myself going to america or Europe.

You never know if you will get an email from YN soon.

@Jacobs An interesting interview you had there! I had her too, she’s old but looks quite young. I have read some of her articles. She expresses negativity in her writing in such a way that it reinforces the positive sides of her experience. I was shocked, when writing my essay, i used the exact same style. However, i had to rewrite it because i though it make negative impression.
Did she tell you that she’s from Yale or did you researched her background pre-interview?

she told me right at the beginning… and I am sure that she wasn’t old and looked quite young… I haven’t read any of her articles … and didn’t know about her until I actually talked to her… Her initials were SMM …

Thanks for the positivity, HouseI. This is the final week I think they’ll be doing interviews, so here’s to luck and good fortune.

If you don’t get an interview, it doesn’t mean that you’re rejected. Some people weren’t offered one in Round 1 and got deferred.

And even an interview doesn’t mean a slight either… There were too many interview dates… and they interview about 40% of the applicants … and may be 30-40 will get in… (even that me an overstatement)

@CantConcentrate: I’d rather have the flat out rejection than be deferred RD. At least I won’t just keep hoping.

@JacobsWannaBe: That is true. But based on the info we know, there doesn’t seem to be any specific criteria that nets you an interview.

does anyone know if they give offers before the date they have on their website (March 31st I think)?

I think they might send their decisions before.

Looks like interviews are done.

I would like to meet you guys one day.

And…I didn’t get one. Welp, there goes a dream.

Hey, i was mistaken, they are still doing interviews today. Um, have you thought of sending an email to…

I’ll try. I’ll email asking how finaid will work for internationals.

I guess the financial aid applications can only be filled by the candidates that get an interview… in fact, this seems to be their explicit policy… and yes they are need blind…

You can only be deferred during EA, it would be waitlisted during RD. ;)

Yeah, you only apply for fin. aid if you get an interview. Can’t wait for decisions…

@JacobsWannaBe: There’s a difference between need-blind and meeting full need. Need-blind means that the ability to pay is not considered with your application - ie, finaid and admissions are separate offices. That means they could accept you, but you might be necessarily have enough $$ to go. Meeting full need means that they pledge to meet the full cost of need beyond the EFC without forcing student loans. Schools that meet full need are far fewer in number than those who are need-blind.

No reply to my email. Am I doomed to not even get a chance at going here?

@Kdog: This school requires a trip to Yale before the start of school, according to the rep who talked to me about YN. That may or may not interfere with my summer plans, so a waitlisting for me would not be ideal - I have know soon so I can change my flight plans accordingly.

Kdog044, you get deferred from Round 2 if it is the first round you applied for and were neither accepted nor rejected:

"If you apply in Round 1 or Round 2, you will receive a decision on your application on or before either 15 December 2012 or 31 March 2013 respectively. There are three possibilities:

An offer of admission to the freshman class
Denial of admission
Deferral for consideration in the next Round of Admissions"

If that is true then NUS is unique. My son only applied RD to Yale and was waitlisted, same was true for Brown. I have never heard of someone who received a deferral in the RD round of any school. If there is no round past RD, what would they be deferring you to. :o
