Stringkeymom - I recognized myself in your posts - different concerns, but same feelings. It is much better to worry here with other parents than to let our kids know how neurotic we are. You are in good company here & trust me you probably can’t think of anything that one of us hasn’t thought about.

I used to be worried that she was in a city, but right now she is living in a very rural area close to a college town and I am actually more concerned now! It just never ends.

I assume the buildings on Old Camous are not airconditioned - right? If not, do students bring fans?
Also, are there any storage rooms in the dorms on Old Campus?

D was in Lawrence Hall which is not air-conditioned. I don’t believe any of the Old Campus dorms are air-conditioned. Yes, we bought D a fan on a stand from BB&B. One of the suitemates bought a large fan for the common room too.
No storage rooms that I am aware of on Old Campus.

No AC. Even a small fan (one that might fit under the bed in winter) can be helpful. I don’t think it ever got warm enough this spring to need them, but for the first month or so last fall, fans were a good thing to have. Just keep in mind: every single thing that goes in to that room will have to come out in one grand, chaotic sweep in May. Seeing thing like possibly-unused bags of golf clubs, and elaborate octopus-like lamps being carted across campus to sophomore digs or waiting minivans makes one grateful for the things we didn’t bring.

No AC in Old Campus. Small desk fans are nice. No storage space, but S’s room in Bingham had very large closets that held an amazing amount–agreeing with riverrunner though that one has to keep in mind that you’re only allowed a certain number of boxes for summer storage.

There was a great thread a year or so ago on the Parent’s Cafe forum about fans. I forget which brand we purchased, but we ( I ) bought a very good one that did not oscillate. I think they tend to get noisy and not function as well. In DD’s suite there was great cross ventilation, but it was hot.

Fans, yes. A/C, no. First of all, you wouldn’t be able to install a window A/C - most rooms have casement windows. Second, can you imagine the draw on electricity if lots of students brought them?

the common rooms of the suites in welch are pretty large. enough for a couch/futon, a large chair, tables, ect. i don’t know the exact size but they should have a layout on the dport 2013 group.

As a matter of idle curiosity, not neurotic helicoptering: Just returned from Maine where DS was attending a music festival on Bowdoin College campus. I was amazed by the new technologies in the laundry room: text messages that let you know when your laundry is done yet! Just wondered if Yale had that option also, having read of their new pre-injected laundry machines.

Do most people de-bunk their bunkbeds, or leave them as bunkbeds? Also, if the beds remain bunked is there enough room (height) to put risers on the bottom bunk for storage space below the bed? Also, do people bring TVs? Is there cable TV? And in the hall bathroom are there paper towel/and or soap dispenser by the sinks?

And for a general question: Does anyone use locks or lojack locks for their laptops?
Thanks so much for your help.
