Anybody know if the washers on Old Campus are HE?

A HE washer? Hah! I had to look that one up to find out if there was a SHE washer as well.
HE = High Efficiency

Oops, sorry. Yes, you’re right about the meaning of HE – I wasn’t looking for a male-oriented laundry room where my D could meet eligible guys who actually wash their clothes!

Kdog: Yes, but that doesn’t mean the key will actually be available at the P.O. We have history with them…

So you don’t have the key to the PO Box anymore? I’m confused.:o Normally your box expires at the end of the year but you keep the key and renew it the next year. First class mail is only held for 30 days regardless of whether it is placed on hold or not. After 30 days standard mail is thrown away and first class is returned to the sender.

Hooray, thanks for the info about the PO form to enable all packages to be received there.

We are driving up tomorrow with all of our S’s stuff in the car…we don’t know what time he will be back from FOOT. Will we be able to have the stuff unloaded before he arrives? He is in a single off a suite…will they give us the key? Thanks for all the info…love reading this to see answers to questions I hadn’t thought of yet!

sarafina,

It wasn’t a problem for us so I wouldn’t think it would be for you. IIRC, the suites were all open so we didn’t need to get a key but I could be wrong (I have that sometimer’s disease :o). Either way, we were able to move him in without needing him there.

we got to NH long before DD got back from FOOT. We got the key and moved her stuff into the common room and then wandered around campus for an hour or two or three until she arrived. Don’t worry!

thanks for the info…glad we can get in before he arrives back!

Be patient with the traffic, they have been flashing signs in New Haven for days warning the locals to avoid the streets around Yale if possible but it’s always a little congested in places.

Thinking good thoughts for all of the freshmen parents today. It is going to be great. Enjoy tom Convocation. It is very moving and special!

Thank you to all the upperclassmen and women who made today easy as can be. A senior by the name of Zak grabbed our 33" refrigerator off of the wheeled luggage cart and hauled it up to the fourth floor. Turns out he’s a member of the wrestling team. GO BULLDOGS!
One of the suite mates brought a tv. Is the coax connection in Welch Hall cable ready or is a box necessary?

I second the thank-you to all the students who helped carry D’s things – also including a fridge – up a lot of stairs!

My daughter was helping some of the freshman move in, she said she was exhausted but it was fun. You forget how “wide-eyed” you were at one point. : )

Set it up for other parent this AM.
Thanks FF.

As FogFog suggested, Convocation today was memorable and moving.
For those who were unable to attend, after the welcoming words from President Levin and Dean Miller, the Yale Glee Club performed Jeffrey Douma’s Raise Your Voices Here.
Link below (to an earlier performance) followed by lyrics gives a sense of the richness and sentiment of the day. Bravo and brava to the Glee Club and all who made the day special.

Raise Your Voices Here

Time passes quickly here, everything new.
Childhood behind us now, fading from view.
Four years stretch out before us, hope rushing in.
Just breathe in and close your eyes - time to begin.

Raise your voices here for an evening.
Raise your voices with me for a time.
Raise your voices, and in the weaving.
Yours will lift the sound of mine.

Time passes quickly still, life richly drawn.
Wisdom of lessons learned, youth passing on.
Our bright college years unfold, new mys’tries within.
But always the song rings out - once more begin.

I wanted to repost this for those who may have missed it. My son confirmed this worked for him this week and now he can get the free 2 day shipping from Amazon Prime (they don’t allow 2 day shipping to PO Boxes) by using the above addressing. Thanks for the find.

:)

Juicer, I hear you!
Last year at the Convocaiton, I had to blink back tears. Sooo moving…from the choir singing (from way up in the top of the Hall)and the kids processing in there…the welcome addresses etc
Quite a moment for a parent.

Hope all the move in’s went smoothly. It goes so well–as Yale has it down pat from the helpers to the bag lunches for sale on Old Campus.
I can tell you this year move-in for the sophmores is a different matter :)
