When my son went to the Baltics with the Concert Band, the student cost was $1000. The student cost for the Glee Club trip to China was similar (I want to say it was a little less, actually). Obviously, these costs are subsidized, but they are still substantial.

^^ Could you be more specific? What Yale website are you referring to?

All Yale students have access to Yale’s various websites using their username and password. If your student chooses to share their username and password with you, then you can have access to everything as well. Otherwise, the only thing Yale parents see is the tuition bill – and even then, the bill is sent to Yale students unless they sign up their parent as a “payer.”

I only have access to this site to see all the bills and pay on them:
[eBill-ePay - Welcome to eBill-ePay](http://www.yale.edu/sis/ebep/)
I have an authorized user acct.
My children’s other schools had access to more things, grades etc. but Yale just has tuition unless your child shares the password.

Dangerous but fun:

[BLADDERBALL IS BACK | Yale Daily News](BLADDERBALL IS BACK - Yale Daily News)

Will you discourage your S or D from participating this kind of game if it ever happens again?

I participated in the real bladderball back in the day, and I have to say, it was pretty dangerous. I fear that students playing it today would be even more drunk than they were back then, and that it would be even more dangerous. There were various attempts to make it less dangerous, but they didn’t really take. It’s probably better if it doesn’t return, but I do feel a certain nostalgia for it.

That article is from 2009. I don’t think it’s happened since then. I probably wouldn’t want my kid participating ( I saw it in 2009), but I don’t think there’s any way to stop them.

There was a brief (i.e., 11 minute) illicit reappearance of the bladderball in 2011. The Wikipedia entry “bladderball” gives an interesting history of this tradition.

Not to change the subject, but I found out there’s been a policy change at Yale Health. Waived students can now get x-rays there for a $25 charge, which will be submitted to their insurance. Only if insurance denies the claim will the charge be billed to the bursar account.

Supposed to be effective November 1.

Husband, son and I are planning on attending the Harvard/Yale football game on the 23rd. It would be nice to tour the campus, but I see that no tour is offered that particular Saturday. We can walk around on our own, but was wondering if there were any “don’t miss” things, like the library with the Guttenberg Bible.

You might want to download a self-guided tour here [Visitor Center | Yale University](<a href=“Yale University Visitor Center | Visitor Center”>Yale University Visitor Center | Visitor Center) Look in right hand menu.

I would certainly pop in to the Yale Art Museum (free). IMHO the Bible isn’t all that thrilling. Sterling Library is pretty inside. I love just peeking in at the various residential colleges. Each is beautiful in its own way. Cross campus with the Women’s Table fountain.

Any of your kids in this “Yale is Brave” video? Just saw a clip on Good Morning America.

My daughter’s in this one (along with a zillion others)–it’s a nice opportunity to see some of the Yale performing groups.

Thanks, jonri and donna, for the suggestions.

HI All

Have been off the net and CC for more than a month…

Happy to have K1 home for the Thx break as we don’t see each other from Aug til Nov–then at Christmas.

Our K2 is applying to colleges and we are thankful the apps are in.
You may recall my mom died in the summer, dad died 2 weeks ago. 113 days apart.

AND I started a new FT job, as a VP of a firm. Good oppty, working on my contract details and non-compete…I find some humor in this – btw

Hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving

Cheers.

Wow, fogfog, that’s a lot of stress and big changes in your life. Do take care of yourself and take some time to relax over the holidays. K2 all done with apps already? Excellent! Good luck on the new job, and nice to have you back on CC!

I was just there. Cross Campus is no more. Is called something else and totally renovated. Sterling Library is under renovation too so you can’t see any of the pretty stained glass windows. However, much of the beautiful campus is still there so a self guided tour would be wonderful.
Class of "82

Cross Campus Library becomes Bass Library.
It was renovated while DS was there. His RC was also renovated while he was there. But he did not mind living in the Swing Space for a year.

Is anybody really nostalgic for Cross Campus Library and Machine City? Bass is much nicer.
