@IxnayBob Many of her friends attend the local state school so it is considerably different from everything she is experiencing. From the dorm setup to the dining halls. And yes a lot of her issue is with decisions that they have made along their paths from people they are dating, the way they dress to their social decisions. She is very surprised over the partying that they have continued now that they are home. I think she expected them to somehow revert back to the innocent high school kids that she knew before they left. It does make me sad though because many of these kids were like family and a few we have not seen even once since her return. No fights, no drama… just no desire to hang out with them.
@tonymom - my D is a rising junior and it never ceases to amaze me how she does not fill out any forms, including those that may lower my bill at Yale. She just clicks on the e-mails and sends them my way. However, she was able to get herself to Korea for 3 months this summer on an all expense paid fellowship to study Korean in Seoul. Now mind you, she was motivated to do that and managed to get it all done. She even ensured that her passport was updated. She arranged her flight to and from, found an AirBnB to live in for a week and an apartment for 3 months - all while here on American soil. Yet, since she has been at Yale, she has yet to open her computer and actually purchase her Amtrak ticket home for holidays - a seemingly easy task. Oh well, gotta love em.
Hi all I’m in a line of work where I have to put my vacation requests in NOW for 2018. That’s when DS graduates. the provisional calendar says commencement is on May 21. Can someone help me with how much time before and after I should book off? events mostly before after?? thanks very much all!
Most people will arrive Saturday. Some colleges have Baccalaureate on Saturday. There is a music concert that night. Sunday is Class Day. Monday is Commencement in the morning/afternoon. So people will stay through Monday. If you stay in the dorms, you reserve for 3 nights - Sat, Sun, Mon.
Oh, I have been trying to set up YPP today and I was not successful
Glad to know I am not the only one. Will be calling them tomorrow, I guess. Daughter wants to do FOOT, so I guess physical and all the bells and whistles are needed? She is still in Europe and will not be coming back home anytime soon, and she insists on doing all the paperwork …God help me , please…
@Tperry1982 - I will need details! My daughter had a chance for a gap year in Korea but she chose Germany. She will definitely want to go to Korea. She was even taking Korean classes for two years (we are not Korean.)
@tonymom Does he have to do the EKG at home? Mine had an extra physical check at orientation where they did stuff like that. Are the health forms available on line? I haven’t heard anything about them yet…which, if the notice is going to my kid’s email and not mine, isn’t that surprising.
@classicalmama
My understanding is EKG is done at yale and the rest is required at PCP. Forms are on catalog.yale.edu or “important dates and deadlines”…snail
Mail form for your son’s doctor to sign off.
@Kelowna - FOOT medical form due July 15, must be signed by doctor. My daughter got the Yale medical forms signed at the same time, since she had an annual physical this week. i think those are due July 1.
@Faulkner1897 - Yale medical forms are needed as well if someone is waving Yale insurance?
@Kelowna - yes, we waived insurance but they need the medical forms. You do still get very basic coverage which my D has made use of for minor illness or injury.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I am an eligible student and I waived coverage, can I still use services at Yale Health?
Yes. If you waive Yale Health Hospitalization/Specialty Care coverage you still have Basic Coverage. Please refer to the Student Guide to Yale Health for additional coverage information.
@musicmerit @Kelowna Yes, we are waiving the coverage too. One of the Yale health forms relates to vaccinations, and the other is a general health form and physical exam report.
Where are you all getting the Yale Health forms? Is this just for freshman going to FOOT?
@classicalmama
It’s listed on important dates and deadlineshttp://catalog.yale.edu/freshman-handbook/important-dates-deadlines/
It’s a health history and form to be signed by PCP at check up.
Please could you help with a basic health insurance question on Yale Health from a Brit - who’s used to the National Health Service so doesn’t have to deal with such things normally?!
What happens if a student has a pre-existing health condition? Is it automatically covered by Yale Health or do you have to declare it and pay extra premiums?
Thanks in advance!
@fro123, it’s a shamefully recent change nationally, but pre-existing conditions no longer affect eligibility or premiums for health insurance.
The forms are in the link that @tonymom posted, and I believe all freshmen have to have submit the general health forms (due July 1). There are some extra medical forms for FOOT that also must be signed by a doctor, and they are different than the Yale health forms (and must be emailed to the FOOT coordinator).
We received mail from a company called Yale Associated Student Agencies. They’re selling linens, etc and seem to imply that they are connected with the school and know the right sizes for Yale beds.
Does anyone know anything about this company? Are they legit? Is it better to use them than bringing up existing linens or buying new ones elsewhere?
@CHD2013 , they’re legit, but you pay a premium for the convenience, and the quality doesn’t justify the price IMO. The beds at Yale, as at many schools, require XL sheets, but you can get them at BB&B, Amazon, etc.
Pretty much all colleges use XL twin beds; you can buy that size pretty much anywhere; BB&B is a good source. I’ve heard that the quality of those sheets you got the mailing for is not the best (scratchy, thin).
