Friday’s the big move-in day for many of us! Wishing everyone safe travel and see you at Yale!!

Have fun, couldn’t ask for a more gorgeous day!

Shoot, wish I could be there. If you see a small, wiry coed doggedly dragging a large brown couch across the Pierson courtyard, please hop on the other end ;)

5,013 miles and 14 hours later (well, 10 hours by now. . .dropped her off at the airport about 4 hours ago) D will be gathering her boxes from storage and moving in. . .again. Can’t believe this is her third move-in; Where does the time go? Wishing all your sons and daughters an absolutely fabulous year!!

I asked D1 if she ran up and down plenty of stairs helping to get her frosh moved in on Friday. None, she replied, frocos are in charge of opening doors since the movers are upperclassmen/women and their keycards don’t work on old campus ;)!

Son moved in Friday. When we pulled up the BK students yelled and screamed. They emptied the Van in about 30 Seconds. We didn’t have to carry a thing to the room. We also went to the Yale station on Saturday and the lines were fine. We didn’t have any problems with the staff. They were helpful to us. Son is trying to figure his classes. i guess that happens today.

We drove straight through 18 hours Sunday coming back from Yale (had to work on Monday) and arrived safely but exhausted. Spent the time at Yale non-stop running from Old Campus to car to shopping to meetings…jam-packed. I am now a…sob…empty-nester…

We also stopped by post office to get key for box and the staff there was wonderfully helpful and friendly. The line was short and when my S’s key wouldn’t work the staff member immediately took care of the issue. No problems whatsoever.

The upperclassmen and women were amazing. It was a great experience to pull the car up and be greeted with cheers. All our stuff was whisked up to the 4th floor room in no time! The Dean of the RC was also there to greet us, which I thought was very nice too. Overall Yale did a great job of making freshmen and their families feel welcome.

I also thought they did a good job, although I still had to make the 4th floor climb with things I brought the next day. (good for the glutes!)
My other daughters college was the same, we opened the doors and the stuff was gone, wonderful! I have to say, having twins, both had almost seamless arrivals.

^^My son was on the 4th floor last year. They grumbled about it some, but it sure does help 'em avoid the “Freshman 15!”

Echo many of the sentiments here. The BK upper classmen did a great job of unloading everything to the 4th floor in no time! We are from the West Coast, but found a great welcome from everyone at Yale. Left my oldest son to come home clear across the country with a glad heart knowing he is going to have a great education and have a great time with all of the wonderful people we met. Can’t wait to hear his stories of the first weeks of college!

Agreed, andy59. Friendly greetings from everyone we ran across; and unloading/move-in was unbelievably fast and organized. I loved all of the different RC t-shirts that the “movers” were wearing. My favorite - though I can’t remember which res. college it was - had this written on the back: “Welcome to New Haven. Now unlock your doors and give us all your stuff” ![]()
My son is also seems very happy (from the little we’ve heard from him - which I also take as a good sign!)

Hello everyone, I have a question in regards to their student id badges. I had the impression they can use this for charging laundry/books and certain eating areas and I would just get a bill from the e-pay/ebill website. However, when we tried to do laundry, we got a message stating “insufficient” funds. So we went on another machine and inserted a $10 bill. My question is, how can I put money in his account so he can use it for expenses like laundry and such? Do I just use e-pay/ebill website?
Thanks
Moving my S was a great experience, too bad their van broke from their FOOT outing, which shortened my time with him and had to say our good byes quickly.

Hi s0cc3r -
In order to use the student id as a charge account it needs to be “activated”. Your son needs to sign in to the student information systems site ([Student Information Systems](Central Authentication Service | Yale University)). Under the Billing and Student Accounts menu choose “Charge Account Authorization”. He should then have the option to activate the charge privileges.
He will need to go to the Assoc. Student Agencies office to charge laundry money to his account. The website says it is at 246 Church Street, and is open M-F 8:30-4:30.
Laundry money must be pre-loaded to the card before it will work (the laundry machines only reduce the prepaid balance loaded on the id card.)
I’m not sure if the charge account privileges work for the bookstore since my son has always just used his debit card there. It does work at Durfees!

I thought you loaded $ on your ID in the laundry room. That’s what I told my S to do–was I incorrect? I remember an ATM-like machine where you put in the ID, insert cash or credit card, and choose amount to go on card.

I know you can use cash to load money on the id card in the laundry room. Can you use debit/credit cards now? The Associated Student Agencies site still says cash only in the laundry room, and cash, credit/debit or student charge at their office.
I will have to check with my son. After two years we don’t discuss laundry much anymore!

Don’t be panic but better be informed:

Yale polices did a good job after it had happened though.

This question is (probably) to the ladies of the house
Does anyone know where I might get a gift certificate for a mani/pedi near campus? Since this is D’s third year I’m kind of getting the drift of her “high stress” times (nothing unusual. . . but especially during mid terms and finals). Home is 6,000 miles away, thus I cannot just run over to give her a pat her on the back and say “attagirl”, yet I still want to do something tangible to let her know I’m thinking of her. I’m hoping a little special pampering around this time just might do the trick! Suggestions?

With or without transportation?

D and her friends go to Fashion Nail (41 Elm St). A mani-pedi is reasonably priced and I think you dont need an appt. Unless your D is in Silliman or TD it will be a decent walk. There is a very nice spa (JoBella Salon and Spa) in the Omni Hotel. D had her hair cut there once freshman year, but has never had a mani-pedi.

Good luck and what a wonderful treat for your D.
Let us know which spa your select.
