Agree with @NiceUnparticularMan that the LOCI is not high stakes. I also think that you don’t necessarily need a “big event”. A reflection on things that have happened and how it relates to your thinking about Yale’s fit may give the AO’s more color and insight. Something that is stressed in interview training, that I have heard directly from AO’s and which is evident in the podcasts and other information on the Yale website is the question, how would this person contribute to campus life, both in the classroom and “in the dining hall” and how would this person benefit from their time at Yale. FWIW, IMO an LOCI that is personal and genuine with some substance has a better chance of moving the needle just a little bit versus a sterile list of achievements, unless we are talking something big (national/international award, published paper, etc…).
While there is a lot to love about Yale, there are many, many great colleges out there. Your son should not stake so much on getting into 1 school. He is in control of his college experience, and I am guessing he is highly accomplished and will get in somewhere that fits him.
She listed updates as bullet points, had one short paragraph to open and close the LOCI. Just one page. She submitted it on February 3rd (I just confirmed it with her), and that was on a later side of what is advised, including by the recent Yale Admissions Podcast, but she convinced us it is could worth the wait - and it did, she was accepted into national orchestra summer program.
Hi, I got deferred but I had lower stats compared to the pool. You said that higher stat applicants need to revisit their essays and lors, but what about lower-stat applicants?
I heard somewhere that Yale will be taking a smaller amount of kids this year because they overestimated the yield from last year. Thoughts? Also after my defferal my Cbo said they will advocate of my behalf what does this mean? Sorry for the questions.
Another deferral here. They say in the update that if they require information in addition to your mid-year report, the AO in charge will let you know. Does this mean if you don’t have significant updates etc, they do not encourage you to submit a continuous interest letter? We don’t necessarily have any significant update so not sure whether sending a LOCI is a good idea. Also, is there a timeline that an LOCI should be sent?
College-Based Organization. On the common app there’s a slot to put the one you’re affiliated with and they help low-income kids reach higher Ed. Last year about 10/80 kids got accepted.
Also because the amount of kids taken from the scea pool is less, and I heard rumors that last year their yield was much higher than they expected almost 70%
deferred applications don’t go back to ‘ground zero’; rather they are given another look in comparison to the regular decision applicants. The fact is that with Yale’s very low deferral rate (as compared to other schools), by deferring your student they are saying that they really want to keep him in the running! It’s actually a really good sign. It’s definitely not about not being good enough… there are so many amazing kids that apply and they just can’t accept all of them.
I think it’s a little different this year as colleges have to create the financial aid package just based on the CSS profile as FAFSA isn’t available until the end of the year
