<p>My wife was recently researching a vacation for our family, and told me that she had found a few murders near the location. I reminded her that someone was just murdered in a nearby shopping mall for his Range Rover; as it happens, he was more likely defending his wife rather than the car during a carjacking. The question is not whether crime ever happens somewhere, but how prevalent it is and how avoidable it is if one is smart about what one does where and when.</p>
<p>That’s not to say that I would vacation (or have my child attend school) everywhere without a care in the world, but I am careful not to exaggerate based on particular (and news-worthy) events.</p>
