Thank you so much for the thorough response!
Your response is so detailed and really reassuring- thank you! It’s been nice to hear my own experiences/preferences confirmed because even though this choice is mine alone, it’s easier to make it when I’m not lost in some void
Look at the curriculum, courses required, course descriptions, faculty background. The course requirements was a factor for my kid’s choice.
Otherwise go with your gut after visiting. With a choice like this, you could flip a coin. In fact, flip a coin and see how you feel- I use that to gauge my feelings when choosing! But only after visiting.
On top of what @NiceUnparticularMan said, this caught me:
“As for ECs, I’d love to get involved in some student run theatre projects (nothing fancy, but I love costuming and would love to work on some shows, even if they’re not campus’s biggest events).”
To me, Yale definitely has more of an artsy vibe than Harvard – I have now and then referred to Yale as the “diva” of the Ivy League. This is not to impugn Harvard’s dramatic and musical offerings, but they are reputably strong at Yale.
I mean the student gave the answer right here - words 2,3,4.
I’m trying to understand about the ranking/prestige of Harvard.
Right – in the context of undergrad, H and Y are peers. Prestige should not be a concern.
Yes it should say vs. Yale. Thanks
OP (in my mind, based on their writings) is clearly right for Yale!!
Just wanted to give an update: I’m going to Yale! After visiting each school one more time it was clear that Yale was the place for me. I’m so excited and feeling very confident in my decision. Thanks for your input, everyone!
You made the right choice! I wanted to say, for someone with an interest in theater, Yale’s offerings are unparalleled.
Signed,
Yale alum
Congratulations!!!
@24pm, congratulations! Can you please share what convinced you to commit to Yale after your second visit to both Yale and Harvard? I assume you visited admitted students days at both schools.
If you read the whole thread, they lay out the things that resonated with them.
Hi! Sorry- I just saw this.
I visited both campuses twice- once for their accepted students days and then another additional time. I was just so happy on the Yale campus and I could really see myself there. The same wasn’t true when I was at Harvard. Plus, everyone I talked to at Yale seemed to love the school despite it being so prestigious, while Harvard students loved theirs because it was prestigious. That distinction was really important to me. Over all, I just felt the spark at Yale and in the month since I’ve committed, I’ve had zero regrets!
Congratulations!
Congratulations! Enjoy your new home for the next four years! My Yalie just came home after her freshman year, and as far as we can tell - she is very happy there and she picked that school for very similar reasons you did.
