Yams with Marshmallows, Green beans with Canned Onions--T-day dishes you love despite the hate

So more Waldorf salad for everyone else. I joke. That was a dish my mother always made for Thanksgiving but nobody, and I mean nobody, misses. Very much a generational thing in our family.

I love Waldorf salad!

I like all of the ingredients in a proper Waldorf salad, so I’m not sure why I don’t like the combination. It may be that Mom always used Miracle Whip instead of mayo.

“It may be that Mom always used Miracle Whip instead of mayo.”

That would surely do it for me. Blech.

I might try it with the Whip (probably not), but definitely not with the mayo.

has anyone tried sour cream or greek yogurt with it?

Hmm, I could see creme fraiche or mexican crema working too.

I love Waldorf salad with miracle whip and dare I say it, I love stovetop stuffing…

Greek yogut or plain yogurt sounds good, but might need a little sweetening, maybe agave. I use yogurt often instead of mayo or SC. Super in baked potatoes (no sweet needed.)

I love salty things, but stovetop is too salty for me.

I am looking for an easy pea dish.
Preferably made ahead. Found a pistachio with peas, Greek yogurt recipe I will try this week.
The only vegetables that can be served are green beans, peas, tomatoes for various dislikes and health
issues. I really dislike all the dishes going cold and we are only 10 so hope to actually have hot food this year.
Also?‍♀️I am poultry intolerant, hate sweet food… but peas sound great.

We love peas at Thanksgiving. We buy frozen baby peas and then steam-sautée them in a generous amount of butter, sea salt, and coarse ground black pepper. Easy. Simple. Yummy.

All this talk of celery and onion in stuffing, o I made some for my dinner.

Ah — I could add tarragon a splash of half and half and paemesian.

Parmesan, fresh mint, salt, freshly ground pepper, butter and lemon zest are great with peas.

@bookworm Me, too.

Mashed peas are a big favorite in England, so I hear. Apparently Rachel Ray has a recipe.

You would know I love little peas with just a little salt. All these foods can taste wonderful when prepped minimally.

Tarragon is my catnip. Love the smell.

Mr. B hates stuffing with a passion… I still make a ton of the stovetop version. I grill the bird… everyone raves about it. I might throw a smokerbox on the grill this year to experiment.

Peas and butter! With mashed potatoes to mush them into…

Gosh, to,orrow ill probably have peas for dinner. This will be an interesring november

My older son is the world’s pickiest eater - luckily he doesn’t really care about food and he doesn’t complain. Most Thanksgivings he eats a couple of slices of breast meat, carrot sticks or red pepper slices and a piece of apple pie.

Regarding the picky eater guest: if a food doesn’t actually make him physically ill, maybe he should shut up about it! Since when is it considered polite to share every single little food preference with your hosts?
