Yao Ming

^^ give the person above a full meal. He seemed to get the point.

I have been lifting for about 5 years now and from EXPERIENCE i have found my words to be true and stay with them. You stated that african americans (note: i am not of that race), eat a lot of meat? I like in Brooklyn, NY and i see African Americans lifting weights and doing pullups on the monkey bars with a diet that consists of a .50 cents drink, .25 cents cake, and a good breakfast (eggs, omlet, cereal, etc.), without the use of protein drinks/ enhacing pills, etc. Surprisingly they make a lot of gains. What i do know though is that asian men develop better calves than other races in a quicker time span. However, the body of an average African American has the ability to grow and maturate faster that any race. Some people have went as far blaming their genetic enhacement on history (i.e slavary), therefore, their previous ancestors were labored and thier bodies where able to adapt to the hardships–those that werent died and as a result their genes werent passed on.

Is this the reason why african americans are able to dominate every major sport and asians are not? Note, i am not trying to be rude but i want you to see the other side of the arguement… For all i know, asians can be focing more an academics and their parents are strictly against sports.

Asian PareNts are strictly against sports? Hhhhmmmm depends on what sports you are talking about. :P

The poor and underprivileged tend to be very good at sports. Look at the Brazilian national soccer team: more often than not, all of the come from the slums of Brazil. For these people, sports are often the meal ticket out of their horrible lives, even if it doesn’t mean making the national squad. Maybe they’ll get to go to a half-decent school, or maybe they’ll get some job as a coach, instead of being a drug dealer. Most of all, it gives them a sense of self-worth in a world where everybody treats them like lepers.

And guess what? Who are the poorest and most underprivileged people in America? Blacks! Thus blacks dominate sports. I’m sure genetics plays some parts, because not every black is athletic, but it’s mostly due to economic and social/cultural factors.

Yeah, that’s not what you said a few posts ago. Need I quote you again? Backtracking now?

And you said, “we”, indicating you are also Asian. It’s my observation that Asians are complete losers when it comes to putting themselves down. I don’t know where this complex comes from (it’s not an inferiority complex, because if it was, you’d be all in everyone’s face instead of taking it up the ass), but it’s disgusting to watch. Asians have no leverage to “take the higher road” and make cracks at themselves.

That would not be genetical factors; it’d be cultural. “Genetics” is a dangerous word, and I advise you to use more caution when you fling it around so haphazardly.

So true. Asian parents love the WASP sports like tennis and golf. Hmm, I wonder why? Stupid immigrant/colonial mindsets.

o.o; Weird. ><; My parents are anti-golf. >P Sparring is a sport! :P

I haven’t really read this debate, but I hope you guys aren’t getting racist… if you’re not, then just ignore this message.

Excuse me, but who is calling who hypocritical???

talking about genetics is racist? What has the world come to?

Economic factors do come in by genetics dominate. I cannot provide proof become i am not an elite psychologist that have studied nature vs nurture and can cite the percentages, but i do think genetics plays more than the environment.

Using genetics to try and pigeonhole hundreds of millions of people is racist, when that assumption comes less from scientific data and more from cultural stereotypes and crude personal observations.

Anti-golf? What?

That’s true; wow, long way from Yao Mind…

Just drop it people…i think he gets the point lol

any Piston fans here??? Or spurs?

D-E-T-R-O-I-T B-A-S-K-E-T-B-A-L-L!!!

Agreed with tetrahedr0n, Ben Wallace>Yao Ming…

Deeeeeeeeee-troit Bas-ket-ball!!!

Far from it. Genetics plays minor roles unless you begin to enter an elite-athetlic stage. The environment, which includes the economic stage that you live in, the amount of food that one is given is a much more important factor in development of althetes.

I covered that through usage of immigrant asian families.

The diet you proposed is propseterious. While you managed to cover breakfast rather well, I don’t think you could find any type of large group of individuals surviving on that, no matter where you go in America. Unless of course, you are proposing that the African American race has developed a way in their bodies to defy the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

You honestly have to stop just assuming gains based on racial differences. I’ve covered over numerous research papers, statistics, over fitness, have probably a few hundred magazines of fitness magazines, and never have I seen anything on calve increase.

I certainly don’t argue that blacks are on the same playing field with Asians. Blacks as a whole, are born with a higher increase of fast fibre IIA Muscles(I’ll pull out the research, there have been a numerous peer-reviewed reports about this(1)), which gives them such a large increase of domination of certain sports. However, when racial differences are compared between whites, asians, and hispanics. There is no racial difference.

(1)http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do?article=5speed

I agree with Tuftsplease :)

Again, i did not assume this, there has been research done and outlined the role of genetics in every race. I am merely recalling that. Also, asians do develop better calves. This is based on a bell curve since the entire asian population was not in this search, therefore its like 64 percent of the population. However, genetics play a very important role in the devlopment of your body, genetics SHAPE you. For example, a calve of a asian will extend from side to side while the calves of an african american will extend upward.

Also genetics are MORE important to the development of your body than the environment. Genetics determine your height, your hair color, your eye color, etc. They are in effect as soon as you are born. In other example, look at weight training competetions. Is it just me or do i not see asians competing? IF 25% of the asian population are away from the means and have the ability to become “big” why not do it? Surely, there is other stuff pulling them back.

Note, i am not pulling stuff out of my back side, i have read this in body building books.

You mean like Olympic Powerlifting? Because I hate to burst your racist bubble, but Asians actually dominate most of olympic powerlifting…

I’m not going to continue to argue any more about the size of Asian calves. It’s one of the weirdest things that’s been mentioned.

The part that you brought this debate was when you described Yao Ming’s Asian genetics were holding them back. The arguement that we have held is that his genetics is not what is pulling him back, rather his environment that was placed in before.

Asian calves? What is that about?

The Chinese are one of the most dominant nations in Olympic weight-lifting, albeit in the lower weight classes.

Maybe they just don’t want to compete? If you take a look at the history of weight-lifting, it’s been pretty much the domain of the Soviet Union. Obviously, they have a complete stranglehold on the event, which may have discouraged other nations from trying to snatch a few medals from it. Notice how there aren’t many blacks who have won many weight-lifting medals; given their increased muscle mass, they should easily dominate the event. But there are other things to consider than just ability.

Need I remind you of Liu Xiang, the new world record holder in the men’s 110 m hurdles?

There was an interesting story I read about how and why the Chinese came to dominate ping pong. Apparently, it was the only sport that they were allowed to compete in, because all the other capitalist countries stopped the Chinese government from training their athletes in any of the other “respectable” sports. So what happened? The Chinese completely came to dominate the sport. What that tells us is that if given the opportunity, Chinese athletes can compete with anybody in the world, contrary to traditional racist beliefs.

Sports, and the Olympics, have always been a battleground for international prestige. The next few Games will be very interesting as a showdown between the U.S. and China. Already, you can’t turn on CNN without hearing yet another horror story about China, while the news crew glosses over election fraud, government corruption, and international war-mongering in America. The whole Iraq War may have been to secure oil from the ravenous Chinese.

I’m no AZN pride guy or anything, but since nobody sticks up for us (not the media, not even other Asians) when age-old racist notions are yet again used against us, there has to be a few people who will.
