Yet another kitchen remodel thread, combining CCs great minds...

kelsmom, that’s not a bad idea!

Pull-out shelves waste too much space in my cabinets with frame. The only place I have them is in the end cabinet. I’ll see how much I regret not having pullout shelves and trash can. My kitchen may turn out to be pretty but highly impractical.

Kelsmom, I can see hiding the mess as a good reason for an appliance garage. I’m just fine with appliances being out and my kitchen looking like a kitchen in general. Right now I’m trying to figure out where five feet of spices should go in my new kitchen. Actually there are probably more since some spices are in my “Indian Cuisine” cupboard.

There are lots of cool things to do with the spices. Our pantry doors have 4" deep shelves built on the inside to accommodate spices and sauces. The front is clear plexiglass so you can see what’s there. I’ve also seen some cool two-sided pull out drawers for spices.

I’m not a big fan of hiding them away. On my parent’s house we built in shallow shelves between the studs. It started off as enough space, but she kept buying new combinations and eventually it wasn’t enough. I keep discovering new cuisines and needing new spices. Sumac and Zahtar anyone?

I have an entire 2-door cabinet devoted to spices (and some tea). It’s crammed, with overflow in another cabinet and of course the refrigerator door. And freezer.

Sumac and Zahtar, interesting choices! I threw out most of my spices. They don’t last long and I haven’t used most of them for a few years.

I have an ironing board installed between studs in the kitchen. It’s charming.
