<p>The back story of the current crisis is my main interest. Although I was surprised by Blair’s subservience, my intent in posting the transcript was to elicit opinions about Bush’s statements about Syria.<br>
Bush suggests the Syrians are backing Hezbollah and can be controlled by a word from the Russians? He views Iran and Iraq as a separate matter altogether? That was my impression of his ‘shorthand’.</p>

<p>This is why I love the invention of free verse. No rhyme, rhythm, or skill involved.</p>
<p>As far as the Middle East goes, the situation is near impossible. Either Israel or Hizbollah will need to start backing down soon, or the entire region will become one giant blot on the map. As grim as I make it sound, Israel (as many have stated before) has blown the Lebanese back to the 1970s/1980s. </p>
<p>As for the President, he should have known better. I don’t mean saying disrespectful things privately to Blair, I mean about the microphone. We all know Putin has those things tapped and on record, so that the KG-- I mean, Russian intelligence service has to put those things to good use. The G8 conference is the only chance for Russia, to you know, gain useful intelligence without spending major intelligence capital.</p>
