Wow. That… is disgusting. I would have been screwed; I had like a 2.5. But I also never had a disciplinary problem in my life. That is such a ridiculous policy. Prom should be for everyone.

If you attend a public school, are passing all of your classes, and aren’t being punished for some other rule infraction, I don’t think your school can deny you the right to participate in your prom. Homosexual kids have fought and won the battle against arbitrary discrimination by school administrators, so B and C students have some precedent on which to base their arguments. You might consider letting the local media know what’s going on.

If you attend a private school, the administration can make their own rules and you are out of luck.

I second the calling WCCO so they can broadcast it. Take action!

All you > 3.5’s should wreak havoc.

Wow…because, the only logical conclusion is that everyone with a 3.5 GPA is perfectly sane and would NEVER act up, especially at prom. xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Ah, this would make a great comic strip. Well, I’m sure you and your gf will have fun anywho.

If discipline was the problem, do something like no major suspensions allowed instead of grades.

Is this White Bear Lake High School?

“Strike at any given time?” That is completely ridiculous. I can’t believe the administration would be so foolish as to make such a baseless assumption and blanket statement!

Prom should be for all students who aren’t suspended or something, not for those who have less than 3.5s… wow. I really hope you can get that changed, and that the prom goes off without a hitch to show that the “sub 3.5s” are not troublemakers just because of their GPAs!

For those of you asking about other activities, yeah, you can be in them if you have a bad GPA. You just have to be on track for graduation, or have a plan to get back on track.

And no, I don’t go to White Bear Lake.

Would you recommend organizing a big rebellion or something? Like a walk-out or a school lunch boycott?

Your administration is the epitome of failure.

Seriously. Everyone with a 3.5 or higher cause mayhem or something. Because EVERYONE knows that the kid with the 3.499 is 75% more likely to stab someone than the kid with a 3.500.

Good grades can’t prove that someone is not a troublemaker. Some people are just naturally smart at school stuff, but there are plenty of hard working students who are trying really hard to get a B. And students with GPA lower than 3.5 can “strike at any given time” is absolutely ridiculous.

wow. that’s sooo funny! at least make it something attainable like a 2.0 or soething

So, students with Learning Disabilities would be excluded? Students with 504 plans, too? PLEASE- call the ACLU. This is discriminatory- how out-of-touch can the school officials be?

I’m on a student leadership committee in my school, and I brought this topic up at this afternoon’s meeting. Being the only one on the committee with a GPA under 3.5 (hehe), I had the most to say.
We thought that we could possibly have a system where you have to tell the school who your prom date is, if you have one. If one person had a 3.2, lets say, and the other had a 3.9, the GPA’s could be averaged, and if it fell at or above 3.5, both members of the couple could attend prom, despite one person having a 3.2.

The system would work like this:

Boy: 3.2 GPA
Girl: 3.9 GPA
3.2+3.9/2= 3.55>3.50 THEY CAN GO TO PROM

Boy: 3.6
Girl: 2.7
3.6+2.7/2=3.15<3.50 THEY CAN NOT GO.

We are introducing this concept to our advisor at the meeting on Tuesday.

But we realized that then people would be rushing to find dates with high GPA’s, therefore people would be there with people they didn’t wanna be there with, and things would be more likely to get violent at the prom.

I think our junior leaders committee can fix this.

I think the assumption that a low GPA means you’re more likely to be violent is a little insulting. Just because you have a 3.0 doesn’t mean you’re going to bring a switchblade and machine gun to the dance.

Frankly WishWash your system sounds even more ridiculous. If I were you I would point out how absurd such a high GPA requirement (if you have one at all) is and try to propose an “Honors Dance” or something separate from a prom that’s open to everyone.

Lol… nobody in my school would make the cutline. And most of those who do wouldn’t go.

Uh…no. That above method also fails.

Come on, this whole notion is simply ridiculous.

It’s prom, for the love of Zeus. I’m having trouble comprehending any sort of restrictions or anything provided that it’s not someone who has been suspended 40 times of drugs or weapons.

that’s a stupid and also a little discriminatory rule…isn’t this against the law? i still don’t get why you’re schools has decided that they want to limit their revenue. I mean, at least they could be logical.

i agree with the tv thing…

It isn’t at all against the law, but it is ridiculous.

Schools all the time if you can go off campus for lunch, you have to have a 3.0 blah blah. This prom thing is so stupid though.

how about a system where anyone who has had a major disciplinary action (or 3 minor ones) is excluded?
