I think Mother Nature purposely designed that our near vision decreases just as face wrinkles appear. Thus we see a soft filter version of ourselves in the mirror which is kind of nice. ![]()
My husband was diagnosed with shingles when he was 40, the same day our 9-week-old baby was hospitalized for RSV. We got the first vaccine, then the second better one, as soon as they came out.
I was probably also in my 40’s when I got shingles. It is a lousy disease, and in my case might have been triggered by multiple long trips back to back and the resulting jet lag. I definitely recommend the shingles vaccine for anyone who might have gotten chicken pox as a child.
My case of chicken pox as a child was very, very mild. I barely knew that I had it, and probably would have not even noticed it if I did not have two siblings with chicken pox at the same time. Shingles in comparison can be way worse, but I don’t see it as a sign of “getting old”.
I think my husband’s case of shingles was due to stress - he’d been unexpectedly laid off four days before our middle child was born and hadn’t found work nine weeks later. I had gone back to work sooner than I wanted to after our son’s birth to help make ends meet. We also had a two-year-old at the time. So much stress!
It is awful! I have had it twice. Very painful.
I had shingles in my 30s, but it was just a slightly itchy rash.
Some relatives did get it at various ages and had initial misdiagnosis before the rash revealed that it was shingles.
I did get the Shingrix vaccine later.
You know you’re getting old when people younger than you look old.
I was talking to an old lady in the store the other day and she disclosed she was born a year after me. Lucky me, my wife is about the same age as she is, but looks a good 15 years younger.
The blue hair didn’t help.
This always freaks me out. I worked with a woman that was the same age as my Mom. My Mom looks great for her age but this lady looked about 20 years older (rough life is my thought).
This may have been mentioned previously…
When you are filling out a form on your phone and you have to scroll down to the year you were born…and scroll, and scroll, and scroll…!
LOL - when I feel that way, it makes me glad that my Dad (1927) is not doing any online forms like that.

When your co workers are younger than your children
-
when you know the latest music /fashion/ lingo only because your children told you about it.
-
when your children talk to each other about you the way you talk to your siblings about your mom.
You go to book tickets to hear Judy Collins and you realize she is 85 years old!!!
You are driving past a music venue advertising an upcoming show by Steve Miller and then see that it says “sponsored by AARP”.
You know the right question in Jeopardy when none of the contestants do because they’re too young.
Last night, they didn’t know Hall and Oates!
When the musicians that helped define an era are dropping like flies. The last surviving member of the Moody Blues just died!
We moved here in 2015 and went to see Judy Collins at the county fair - on the Senior Stage!
You know you’re getting old when this makes you sad but also happy:
Original
Extended from Days of Future Past
Wow, how many times did I listen to that album. Especially loved Tuesday Afternoon.
I believe Hall and Oates had such a falling out that they both have restraining orders on each other!
