Ha, I just noticed my profile picture. That kitty, Pounce, has been gone quite a few years now and so has that computer monitor. He loved the old big monitor because it was warm and he could sleep on it. I remember feeling bad when we changed monitors. A good but feisty cat.

I just remembered that before PR I posted occasionally on a Usenet site called soc.college.admissions back in the late 1990s. Anyone else remember that?
It felt like magic to be able to read and reply to messages from all over the country! It may be hard to remember now decades later with a internet-connected computer in every pocket but once going online seemed like an adventure. I guess Usenet was also a pioneer in showing what happens on unmoderated sites as it was overtaken by flame-wars and spam. The online commons didn’t turn out to be a very nice place.
