You pack your old washcloths with you when you go to France and leave them behind.
My H saves every. single. receipt. Even those from our local market that are also emailed - he still gets the thing printed out. If he buys something from Amazon, he prints out the stupid confirmation page. Everything purchased online means a hard copy of the confirmation page. It drives me crazy.
According to this thread, I have apparently been nasty my whole life. Maybe germs are good as I have only had one prescription my entire adult life, and I am about to turn 60.
So the people who just can’t imagine not using a washcloth, what’s the deal? You don’t like touching your body? It gives you the creeps to run soapy hands across your body?
Soap, water, human hands, and and if you have one, a great hand held shower nozzle are just fine for getting a body clean.
Do these washcloth only folks use a washcloth when you wash your hands? If not, do you believe your hands aren’t really clean because you didn’t use a washcloth?
No washcloths here. My mom was appalled when she learned that I didn’t use one (I think I stopped in college… none of my housemates used them either and there was no place to hang one in our tiny shower). I do use a nylon puff once in a while to exfoliate but it doesn’t need doing very often (and I can’t reach my back anyway).
Toilet lid down - only in the bathrooms that the dog goes in
I do rinse chicken parts before cooking, most of the time.
I think paper toilet seat covers are ridiculous, especially when the previous person’s cover didn’t flush properly and is still sitting there slightly damp. Also people who hover and get the toilet seat wet have a special place reserved in wet germy hell ;-).
And I’m sure I’ll think of 3 crazy things my husband and I have disagreed on over the years as soon as I hit the ‘post comment’ button but right now I’m blanking. LOL. This isn’t crazy but he’s super tidy and I’m not and he has more than once tidied up so well that he’s thrown out stuff of mine I was still using. Or moved it somewhere that I couldn’t find.
@veryhappy and @thumper1, my kids had to learn to put both the seat and the lid down when we got a little Bengal kitten, and she thought climbing into the toilet and playing in the toilet water was the most fun ever.
Then there’s the story of my husband taking little cups of water to his sister and mom while they were trying to read quietly. After awhile his mom realized the water was not going on while he was away. She soon realized they’d been drinking toilet water. ICK!
I use a washcloth for my face every night, and once a month or so a facial Buff-Puff. Also use a Buff-Puff for my body maybe once every six weeks or so. Maybe my facial skin isn’t so delicate. No issues.
DH ad I recently returned from a week in Italy. I had read that European hotels don’t provide washcloths, so I bought these little guys: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T6QOZRI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They’re really cute and tiny, and unfold and become functional with only about two dops of water. Turns out, though, that the hotels we stayed in had washcloths.
@Nrdsb4 I’ve gone on hikes where my legs get so dusty and dirty there’s no way I could’ve showered without using a washcloth to rid myself of the dirt. Same with my gym workouts: I sweat buckets during my workouts, by the time I drive home from the gym I know there’s a layer of sweat that dries on my skin that a hand wash couldn’t clean thoroughly. My lifestyle warrants a washcloth.
But you use your hands (and nails) to wash your hair, right? The most sweaty part of me after exercise is my hair and scalp!
Yes, hands can help wash off salt from sweat and hiking dust without needing a wash cloth.
Ive never used a wash cloth. Water and soap are all that’s needed to get you clean. I do shave my legs every day in the shower. There’s definitely no need for a wash cloth on your legs when you do that no matter how much dirt is there. I use a bath wash that heavier and more spreadable than bar soap. Used to be nutragina now it’s that foaming dove wash which I’m obsessed with.
I laughing in a way that this thread has turned into shower discussion…but I just have to add, I use no washcloth and I use a bar of soap that is not fully smooth - it has little scrubbies in it so it exfoliates skin - right in my hands!!!
Yes hands help but do not get all the dirt off. I’ll do a hand wash with soap, but then next is with my washcloth and I see the dirty water slough off. So yeah hands can be a option to wash but it doesn’t do a thorough job.
Another example, I wash my face really well with my hands (twice). Clean, right? I always follow up with swabbing my face with a cotton ball and witch hazel and there is always a layer of dirt on the cotton ball!! Just think, after you hand wash your body in the shower you still have a layer of dirt and dead skin.
But we digress…sorry OP!
Well, it appears that more than half of us are showering daily and are STILL walking around dirty due to refusal to use a washcloth!
This is exactly why I wash and scrub my potatoes. Washing alone is not enough.
Hey, if people want to use a washcloth, I have no problem with that! If someone is so dirty they feel they need a washcloth to get off extra layers of dust or grime, have at it. It’s the idea of people being “appalled” or sincerely not understanding how people can get clean without using a washcloth that has me gobsmacked.
It is clear to me that some people are extremely uncomfortable with the concept of putting their hands on certain parts of their bodies while cleaning up in the shower. Okay, there is no reason why they have to if they don’t want to. But don’t assume that there aren’t plenty of normal, well groomed people out there singing in the shower, soaping and cleaning and doing just fine without that physical barrier. And that’s okay too!
You learn something new every day!
It certainly does do a thorough job as a general rule…that’s not considering certain unusual circumstances where someone is covered with grit…being at the beach comes to mind when you just can’t get all the sand off, or other similar circumstances. But on the average day…no, not a requirement.
I’m cracking up…!

This one mentions a “rough sponge or cloth” - but not until step 7! LOL!!!

I can’t remember the last time I hung out for a long time in dirty soil…but the next time I do, I’m using a washcloth AND a loofah. ![]()
Don’t come near me then because I don’t regularly use scrubbing devices or means when I wash myself. Just soap and the palms of my hands. The offender areas get a lot of attention. Unless one needs to scrub off dirt, paint, or grease, that is quite sufficient. But I bet no one can tell how I wash because I don’t stink, and I don’t use perfume… because we have a very sensitive person in our office.
I have a very sensitive nose (been called the CSI by kid) and can easily tell who used a scented product to mask an odor.
