So far, getting a 78/100 on my first statics exam due to a stupid mistake on one of my FBD’s lol… I’m in for a very long second part of the semester. Class average was a 68 so who knows…

You think a 78 is bad? Clearly you haven’t been in college long enough.

Thinking that “Oh it might be a very advanced class and I lack the prerequisites but I’m sure if I study and try hard I’ll do fine”.

Damn you Advanced Radiation with Participating Medium.

On another note, accidentally setting my alarm clock for PM than AM is full of fail.

Taking 24 units and working at the same time during my first quarter in the university… almost got on probation.

Lord knows I have pulled that trick several times.

I think after about 5 years in engineering I stopped evolving/progressing. Every move since has been lateral and just as disappointing. I get my MBA in 2 months and I’ll have 10 years experience, I think if I went after 5 and came out with 7 years experience I would have been just as well off but 3 years sooner.

Also, going to school while working and having 2 kids is tough.

boneh3ad, you’re right. I am only a sophmore and this is my first engineering class. I didn’t really expect my first test to turn out like that. Especially when I need to apply for major sequence next semester which will require a 3.0 GPA in major related coursework. Next semester is going to pwn me, engineering graphics, thermo, mechanics of materials, dynamics, and differential equations.

Engineering Graphics is a surprisingly frustrating class, especially if you lack strong hand writing skills. However, learning Solidworks/Autocad/ProE is a lot of fun and pretty useful if you get adept at it .

Yeah its predominantly a solid works class. It has a lot of emphasis on reverse engineering. It should be fun but, it is a very time consuming class. I think I will be in class for two hours a day for 3 days a week.

Wow, that much class just for graphics? In my CAD class that taught ProE, we had 2, 1-hour classes per week plus a 2 hour lab every week, and you could usually skip the labs if you just did the assignments on your own and turned them in when you got to lab.

Bone,

Mine worked pretty much the same way. However, being really good in CAD/modeling software is a great skill, specially when recruiting time comes around.

My analog watch stopped working during my Electromagnetics midterm. The exam had 3 problems and I thought I had more time to answer the last one then I did. Had 1/3 of the exam graded 0 (not to mention not getting full credit on the other 2/3) and decided to drop for fear of not being able to ace the final exam.

During my sophomore year of high school, I flunked my midterm in geometry, which I hated, with a 69. I had a 92 in the class and my grade dropped to an 89 so I was one point away from making all A’s.

haha, I quit trying to hype up my CAD experience when I was being interviewed by companies during undergrad because they kept on subsequently trying to pigeonhole me into doing a lot of CAD stuff, which is incredibly boring to me. I would just casually say I have CAD experience but say it along with about a million other things. It CAN be useful, but boy does it bore the hell out of me, haha.

I see a future academic screw up:

Spending way too much time on CC instead of research.

+1

10char…

thenextbigthing, I have a similar screw up. Got my only C and D in a high school Geometry class and during the same semester, got an F (ughhh) in a college dance class for not completing one outside event requirement for no good reason.

So as I am applying to colleges, admissions officers are going to see that I am a prospective engineer with a D in basic geometry AND a competitive dancer for fourteen years who got an F in a jazz class. And jazz just happens to be her favorite haha.

I got a 98 and 97 on my first 2 midterms in thermodynamics. Then the final became insanely difficult and I got a 76 after a curve. I ended up with a B+ in the class.

I got 50’s on my macro econ midterms and finals and got a B- in the class because I did all the homework and stuff.

I’d be so ****ed going into a final with a high A and blowing it. I have gone into finals in the reverse situation (B+/A-) and come out with an A everytime (so far, that is…)

had a quiz in statics this past thursday. didn’t study a thing and was assuming that i was going to bomb it. got the quiz and noticed how easy it was even though i didnt study. did everything step correct except a stupid algebra calculation at the beginning:
7.6T = 1000, solving for T (tension)
instead of dividing by 7.6, i added it to 1000. FAIL. it bugged me the rest of the class period.
