Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

The Skechers I ordered from Amazon on Prime Day arrived yesterday and I test-drove them last night. It’s seriously like walking in a thick yoga mat, which makes sense since that’s the inspiration for the insole. GO GET SOME if you need comfortable supportive casual shoes for walking. These are the “Go Walk 4” series. https://smile.amazon.com/Skechers-Performance-Womens-Flourish-Walking/dp/B01AH0CZMS/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1468593859&sr=1-3&nodeID=7147440011%2C7147440011&keywords=women%27s+skechers+go+walk+4

My 3rd fleece (pomegranate) is supposed to arrive today. Done with winter jackets, tho sorry I didn’t know about the north face before the columbia sale.

Meant to add that AI’d already gotten some winter tops for the DIL and other s’s gf from a Lilla P sample sale. One is sorta like this https://www.amazon.com/Lilla-Hooded-Duster-Steel-Large/dp/B0163OMGEY/ref=sr_1_35?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1468596646&sr=1-35&nodeID=1044456&refinements=p_lbr_brands_browse-bin%3ALilla+P and one is more like a fashion hoodie sweatshirt (cant find it on line). Got each for about $30- 35.

Fleece arrived. Its not in the plastic bag like the others were. Its just loose. in the bag.

Meant to add-- I’ve been considering trying to support keeping magazines alive. Can get my local city magazine for 50 cents an issue. its more likely I might read that than Smithsonian, which I can get for 75 cents/issue. The City magazine I have gotten in the past, and occasionally skimmed it, but haven’t really read it cover to cover. There is also now a competitor that I get for free, but its more of a “society” magazine, though does have articles on restaurants, happenings, etc. What to do…

I’ve been puzzling over a piece of equipment to purchase for my health needs and reached out to two people who are more knowledgeable than I in these matters. One asked a friend to see if there is something that would be suitable for me and the other just contacted me and told me he’s sending me a slightly used, reconditioned piece of equipment that should meet my needs perfectly! Best of all, he’s sending it as a gift and not accepting any payment!

I needed a new dog bed for my dog and I wanted to get him one called a dog cave. They run about $60 and higher but I found a groupon for one and snagged a large for $34. Doggy is going to be happy. Not this brand but close enough. https://www.amazon.com/Snoozer-Luxury-Cozy-Camel-Large/dp/B0013UQQVS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1468678631&sr=8-3&keywords=cozy+cave+bed

Onward, that bed is awesome!!! I’m sure my cats will enjoy something like that, but no, I am not spending $70 on a cat bed.

We have that bed, snagged it one year on a coupon, one of the dogs adores his “Pita Bed”

Do you have a link to your deal? My DD wants one of them

I think this is the one: https://www.groupon.com/browse/chicago?lat=41.8795&lng=-87.6243&address=Chicago&query=dog+cave&locale=en_US
I chose the bigger size.

@BunsenBurner - you have to google cat cave and check out all the fun cat caves. Some are really funny.

Cool! That is a good deal. Thanks.

I just spent an hour comparing rental car deals and rate codes. I first quickly look at all of them on kayak or expedia to get a quick overview, and unless there is a glaring deal I will book with Hertz since we have Hertz #1 gold, we get 5% back on Hertz rentals on my AmEx card and an additional 3% back by booking it through mrrebates. I still found the best deal using my AAA code (better than USAA) and there was an extra RC discount for an additional $10 off. There is, for some reason, a special on the midsize jeep compass (cheaper than even the economy or compact). So I booked this car for 2 days for 81.67 (this is before the 5% back on Amex and the 3% back on mrrebates. Mrrebates does the 3% on the rental cost only, not the junk fees they slop on at the airport (we are on a tight time schedule so have to rent to/from the airport) so the extra 3% back will be on only $59.28 of the $81.67 fee. But hey, free is free. So the 2 rebates combined will total $5.86. Again, not a big deal, but it is nice. Total 2 day midsize rental will then be $75.81 total. This is in Minneapolis.

Nice, jym. Too bad you are on such a tight schedule, as I’ve found that MSP has some of the highest airport taxes in the nation. We usually rent off site in Bloomington, but then return (no charge) to airport.

I got two good deals at Macy’s today with $10 rebates on each on a blender and a small dust buster but had a very frustrating experience at the store.

What should have taken 10 minutes took almost an hour as I walked in circles looking for a sales person. When I did they asked me to go back to the home goods dept but that person was helping someone in another dept. I was biting my tongue the whole time. The floor was almost empty with barely any customers and the sales person looked really lost. He didn’t have the mail in rebates I needed so was aimlessly walking around the store looking for that person. He says " you know this is a Black Friday sale." My response " one a black Friday sale I would expect more sales people on the floor." He then asks me if I would like to be his personal client. I said I’m already a customer of the store. I am ready to just walk out of the store at this point without the merchandise. I tell him make sure there are no security tags on the items as I don’t want to have to walk back to the dept again. When I finally made it down the escalator to the exit door to the garage the alarm goes off twice. I finally tell a sales person how horrible of an experience I have had and to call a manager. Manager checks my bags and escorts me out of the store so that I don’t face any problem. I wanted to right a letter to the mgmt. about my experience but just thought to chill out and think about something else.

I needed a mirror for over the guest bedroom bureau and found a gorgeous one at Marshalls for $25. It’s quite large with beveled glass and a matte gold-ish frame. Very happy with my find!

Ok…this isn’t a good buy everyone can get…but I was happy. Got new glasses. Price was $675 or so. They gave me a “new customer” 30% discount. Then they gave me a rebate form for $20 for the lenses they are using. Then they gave me all the forms I need to submit to my Medicare supplement (which pays for glasses once every two years). My total out of pocket cost will be $220.

Less expensive than BJs (even before my insurance payment) includes a two year warranty.

Good deal or not? I was having lunch near the mall yesterday, and decided to run into Nordstrums to get a goody for my son. I’ll be visiting him next weekend. Ran into Maria, who has dressed son for 10 years. They were having the tent sale, so I bought many more items than I planned to do. First time I’ve been in the mall for 3 months, so I don’t keep track of sales.

@raclut - I hear you!

Yesterday my Black Friday in July purchase arrived. The jacket fits perfectly on DS & still glad I save almost $200.

But, in the box was also another jacket- not one that I ordered. There is a Macys nearby so I took it back. The poor salesperson didn’t quite know what to do with it & called a manager. The manager huffed & said “you can’t get a refund for something you didn’t buy.” - Jeez, that wasn’t my intent at all- just trying to do them a favor & all I could think about was someone waiting for their 43S jacket!

Will just chalk it up to the price paid for a good bargain.
