Your "I've Met This Famous Actor/Athlete" Moment

Met President Obama at a lunch. Handsome and nice beyond belief. He was especially attentive to the children there.

Nastia Liukin: I used to go to one of the WOGA gyms (where she trained) for classes and I got the chance to say hello and talk very briefly. :o

Sent from my SGH-T959V using CC

Dianne Feinstein (CA), even got to sit in her office chair in DC!
Governor Brown (current gov of CA), his girlfriend wanted to buy our house. He said no…
George Zimmer (Men’s Wearhouse, the guy in the commercials who says "You’ll like the way you look, I guarantee it). He has a horrible taste in clothing (or more specifically, hawaiian shirts), which is a bit ironic for a clothing mogul.
Saw Taylor Hicks (American Idol) at a Yankees game but had no idea who he was until after the game was over and I googled him.

Maybe he has enough taste in clothing to know not to wear the horrendous stuff he peddles at his stores. :)

I co-hosted an after-party for Ed Asner, who played Lou Grant (the boss) on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. He flew in to a small town in Michigan to do a benefit, a dramatic reading of “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” (poetry by children in a concentration camp), synched with a local symphony orchestra.

The after-party was for patrons of the event. He was unbelievably gracious, and checked in with me just to make sure, “Did I talk to everybody?” He didn’t want to accidentally miss anyone.

So last year, when he was on the wrong side (IMO) of the SAG-AFTRA merger, I couldn’t be mad at him.

I met Dee Snider in 2005. I was 16 at the time and the world’s biggest fan–yes, really. We only spoke for a minute but he made it very special for me as a young kid that really thought the world of him at the time.

I’ve met Randy Johnson (arguably the best left-handed pitcher in the history of baseball) on two occasions. I met him at OfficeMax when I was shopping for school supplies. He was there with his daughters so I didn’t ask for a autograph, but instead just took pictures when he had his back turned lol.

The second time was just a few months ago. His son is a year older than me and goes to a private school that plays in the same division as my high school. When we played this private school Randy was always there. I didn’t want to ask for an autograph, so I just got a picture instead.

My daughter didn’t let Jamie Moyer sign her mitt, because she only wanted Randy to.
:o
OMG embarrassed.

Did you Know Randy Johnson was a photographer?

We have had some interesting encounters in my family, but one of my very favorites was running into Tony Randall and Jack Klugman (together!) years ago at Yankee Stadium.

When I was a young girl, my family ran into Walter Cronkite at a sailing show in NYC. It was so strange to see someone from television in person. I remember he was very much a gentleman.

In an airport about ten years ago I ran into Richard Simmons in an airport. He was dressed in a tank top and short shorts! A friend of mine had lost 50lbs doing Sweatin’ To The Oldies recently, so I asked him for an autograph for her. He was so nice! Very calm, polite, and wanted to hear all about my friend.

A few years ago I was in line at a coffee shop in Burbank. I asked for the tea list and they pointed to the wall behind me. I turned and looked but could not see the tea list. Finally a nice young woman behind me put her finer on it and said, “Here it is.” I thanked her and went on my way. My friends who were with me told me that young woman was Jennifer Love Hewitt. Clearly she’s someone who doesn’t mind helping middle aged women who have forgotten their glasses!

Cronkite had a house in Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard, on the harbor where he had a sailboat. It was a much quieter summer place back then. Many fewer visitors, many fewer houses. If you were there off season, Edgartown had 3 businesses open: the hardware store, the place whose name I forget which sold newspapers and the small market just outside downtown. The movie theater was the 2nd floor of town hall. Walter and his wife would walk around like everyone else. He liked The Kafe, a basic, towny restaurant in Edgartown. It was, in retrospect, kind of funny to see him wearing a plastic lobster bib. He had a very large head. My dad used to yell at him on TV - “That’s not the way it is, Walter” - but never yelled at him in person. I think he patted my brothers’ heads from time to time.

My brother had a conversation with Henry Kissinger on one of the docks. I don’t know if he remembers because at that age we were mostly looking at the sea robins being pulled up - really ugly things that fascinated us - and he was, to him, just some old guy. My father told my brother who the man was.

My wife roomed in college with Victoria Clark (Tony winner for Light in the Piazza).

I once flew on Donald Trump’s helicopter–he wasn’t on it. Ivana was on it, but it was so big I didn’t actually meet her.

We recently met Michael Meeropol, one of the sons of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, because my daughter had written an essay about his adoptive father, Abel Meeropol–who is famous for having written the song “Strange Fruit.”

My biggest thrill, though, was meeting Captain Kangaroo at a book signing.

Those from Seattle might be thrilled to hear I grew up across the street from Gertrude.
( “she” pioneered going by your first name - at least in Seattle  )

Spouse had a brief correspondence with Ernest Borgnine this last year. Spouse has a copy of his biography that Ernie signed and sent to him. He shopped in our local market up until his recent death.
