We like it because we can use it as another table with the lid is on.

I was looking for pictures of our deck and alas couldn’t find any until I remembered that our deck contractor had taken some with his drone immediately after the rebuilding was done!
Here are a couple of pictures.
The firetable is on the deck but the chairs are still inside in those pictures. Not shown is the side deck that serves as my garden space.

Amazing deck - and house! I bet you get some wildlife to peer at from your deck! I love the “glass fence” border around the deck. Do you have to clean it often?

We haven’t cleaned the glass in 3 years 
! Still looks great. The brand is InvisiRail (Canadian). The wildlife passes below the deck, but we can definitely see bird activity. Today there was a bold eagle flying low! Also, bats at night when it is warm enough for them.
ETA: the deck is our backyard of sorts. Grands get to play on it while adults might enjoy some beverages.

You all are making me feel I need to up my game on my deck. But really…we live in a lake community, and spend a ton of time at the lake. BUT I’m going to dress up my deck more!

I think it’s like any other part of your home. Weigh if it’s important to you or worthwhile. Not everyone chooses to spend time outside.
In good weather I spend hours a day outside. I’ll exercise outside, eat, read, garden, bring the laptop out and work, play with the dog, entertain, take care of and use the pool, etc. We also have different hang out zones including a large sun porch which is my salvation in the winter!

When we first moved into this house, 13 years ago, we added a huge deck in the back. Last year, we replaced the wood deck with Fiberon, Home Depot’s Trex-like material. This year, we’re replacing our 26-year-old outdoor furniture with some Polywood stuff from Costco. DH and I need to assemble it and then I’ll take pictures.
For those of you with outdoor rugs: Are you happy with them? Do they create mold underneath them? Do you leave them out all year? Etc.

Our outdoor rugs are made of a plastic breathable material so no issues. We do have another outdoor woven but it’s undercover.

This is my favorite outdoor space. It is off the back of our tiny cottage, and, due to the hill, about 12 feet plus off the ground. At 10x26’, it increases our living space substantially, and we just love it. WE keep it minimally furnished, so that it doesn’t obscure the views from inside the house; just a small sofa set, and a round table and 4 chairs for dining…all from Ikea.

We have an outdoor rug at our DADU (detached unit) in the PNW and it does fine, no mold, and no flipping up. We had an outdoor rug here at home in the high country desert and I finally removed it. Way too much wind. No matter how much I anchored it, it still flipped up. The rugs were from Costco and Pier one.

Beautiful space! And bug protected it looks like. Even prettier when the trees bloom - what state??
So jealous of anyone with a wooded view. Once upon a time (about 30 years ago) we did also, and we would gladly sit on our deck and enjoy the wildlife (deer, fox, coyote, owl, bats, rabbit, and the usual smaller creatures). Over time, both our neighbors cut down most of their trees – they just don’t like wooded yards. A developer one lot away obliterated about 4 acres of woodland and “improved” it with new generic homes, and lawns. We tried desperately to keep our small patch of woods, which eventually looked awkward rather than part of a larger forested area. Over the last few years, we’re losing ALL our canopy trees (except one), and unfortunately invasives have ravaged the remaining space. Any suggestions on websites or examples of ‘natural’ yards - or at least low-maintenance ones?

We have an outdoor rug from Costco. It’s about 5 years old, and is starting to show wear – fraying a bit around the edges. It was inexpensive. We leave it out all year. No problem with mold, but dirt does gather around the sides. That’s probably because of the gardeners blowing off the patio.
A rug is a great visual “anchor” for outdoor living room seating.

@VeryHappy we have a rug under our outdoor firetable set. It has been sitting there year round for 8 and a half years without any maintenance other than occasional vacuumings. The caveat is that the space is covered (but it is not heated or walled in). The rug came from Costco.

We had an outdoor rug from Costco. I liked the look, and it held up quite well, but made more work to clear debris from the deck. Every year I would also need to clean with bleach before storing it for the winter. We have not used it for the last few years, and don’t really miss it.
How do these outdoor rugs do in New England winters if left out?
I’m would imagine that it’s going to get more debris - leaves a tree pods and such. I would say either take 5 mins to roll it up for the winter or just plan to power wash when needed.
A rug is an easy way to define a space I add some color/texture.
How much debris do you get on your deck??
