Your second thousand posts

Looks like the moderator deleted the funny message. Bummah.

I used to have an online translator for sending emails to my in-laws that do not speak English. My husband laughed at the translations there too
I also work with a lot of Russians and other eastern European college students during the summer, some of whom take the crash course approach to learning English before coming here…I have heard some humorous choices for their phrases

One of the young men gave me his translation book before he went back because we laughed so hard when we read it. It was supposed to be useful and necessary phrases to learn when coming to America.

There was an entire section devoted to " how to haggle the price of fish in the marketplace "
And " where should you put your galoshes when you are gliding your partner across the dance floor "
Another funny thing about this book is the cover…there is a drawing of a fat man with tube socks up to his knees and a pretty and scantily clad woman on his arm…we thought the theme of the book should have been geared to how to be a good mail order bride. :)

Yes, I think posting rate accelerates as people become more accustomed to being here.

^^^ Looks like you are pretty accustomed to being here, token! 12,000 posts! I bow to your fingers!

** ands thanks for the quotes from the funny spam, patsmom. I missed the spam, but your snipits are classic!

Online translators can be hilarious. We had an employee with the last name of “Grooms” who had to send out a very important company-wide email that would include French-speaking Canadians. She was advised to use the online translator and did so. One of our bilingual Canadian employees called her up in hysterics and advised her that he email was signed,
“Janet the Toilet” and employees were told to contact “Ice Cream Tom” (last name was Frost) if they had any questions. We never did THAT again.

memake–I hear you and have often wondered how much is too much. What I found is that when I’ve needed help on a specific topc, I tend to get into the details more and it’s been worth it–there is such wisdom and experience here! Especially this parents one. And while it’s so great to have this virtual support group, I hope to graduate from CC when my son heads off to college–but I sort of doubt that I will!

To the OP: I have been on here for several years and was quite proud this week to finally get to 1,000 posts. I feel very slow…

27 is either a cross between Hawaiian, Finnish and Old English, or I need to install a couple of new fonts.

I imagine that if someone went back to all my posts over the last 6-7 years (including the “old” classic forum), they could get a pretty good picture of who I am, where I live, what I do for a living, where my kids went/go to school, how much money I make, etc. Then again, just about any marketing company has that info, too! So, I don’t worry. ;)

I’m in awe of those who start a number of threads. I’ve got thousands of posts but have started only one thread.

what was #27 appears to have been removed, making my last post in this thread pointless. It was not directed at churchmusicmom’s comment, rather at a posting that appeared indecipherable.

LMNOP-
Nope-- you have started 2 threads

Parent Cafe

I just saw a poster (Dallice) who had over 4,000,000 posts. Can that be correct? Did he hack into his profile and change the number?

OK…I’m angling for 10,000 posts BEFORE my dd graduates from college. I will say…1000 of my posts are telling folks not to miss deadlines, 1000 are telling folks who have $300,000 incomes they will not likely get need based aid.

If it never snowed, and there were no weekends or evenings, I would never post here:)

churchmusicmom - congrats.

I go through phases… sometimes I never look at my post counts; other times (like now, as I’m approaching 1000), I start paying attention more, and try to post in other forums than just the cafe.

However, I do think for those of us who have children attending very small LACs (like my D), where the boards are not very active, it’s difficult to amass that many posts. Sometimes I visit the board where D1 graduated from, but now, five years out from her application phase, I don’t know if I have an accurate handle as to what’s going on there. So it’s difficult to increase the post count when there’s not as much traffic on the one school board you have the most to contribute to!

I’ve started 2 threads? That is a 100% increase from the number that I thought I had started…

As for post count, I’ve been blessed by Ds who are 5 years apart. You discover CC when your first is a junior. You post the whole time she is a senior. You stay a year or two to “give back” to the board. And in my case, it was–“Why not hang around until the younger D is a junior and I can get back onto the treadmill?”

So there will be a year or two after D2 goes off to college. And then–will I stay or will I go…College kid or no, some of the Cafe discussions are quite entertaining!

I think that Dallice has only posted in the political forums and for some reason the post count is all wacky because of this. Of course, Dallis is pretty darned prolific as a poster there…

Honestly, I feel as if I live on this forum, and I’m still at less than 300 posts! My goal is to graduate to “Member.” :)

Me, too, CBBlinker! I’m guessing it’ll take me a year or two.

I got on CC when my D1 was a sophomore, because she was really in to Musical Theatre and I needed to find out about it as a possible course of study. Then she moved to Opera, and I got to research some more. Then D2 decided to study Arabic, so that was another topic to research. Now, my HS freshman son has developed a passion for marching band snare and I have more fun stuff to learn. I going to be sad when my kids run out of new interests :frowning: - I suppose my posting rate will slow to a crawl.
