YouTube TV, cutting the cord

Wow! So are those extra games typically on cable tv that we are currently paying for?

No they are not. The only way to watch out of market Sunday afternoon football games is via the Sunday Ticket. The exclusive rights to that were held by Direct TV for many years, until YTTV won rights two years ago.

Thank you for your help. This is great info to know so I can relay to hubbie. I did go and look about the NFL Sunday ticket and it said all games not on local broadcasting, just like you said. But cable gets ESPN, and so does YouTube. I think some of those games would be on ESPN.

My experience with YTTV has been that they have all the college football games you would ever want to watch. My husband does not follow a particular college football team, but has been able to see all the big and not so big games.

No, the non-local ones won’t be on ESPN.

That’s true. You can get pretty much all college sports on YTTV.

@conmama, check out fuboTV if you want more sports. They have a very good lineup of “regular” channels and plenty of football. Every “out of area” pro game I’ve been unable to watch on my YTTV has been available on Fubo. Here’s their list of channels -

Also @conmama football season is newly over so you have several months to figure it out! You’ll be a pro YouTube Tv-er by fall!

Except for Sunday afternoon football games. As I mentioned above, those are available exclusively via NFL Sunday Ticket.

Hmm. I live in north Florida where the Miami Dolphins games aren’t televised because the Jaguar games are on instead. But Fubo always has the Dolphin games. I’m not sure about other teams but I don’t see why it would be any different. Anyway, I will defer to you since I don’t actually subscribe to Fubo. :upside_down_face:

Unfortunately, I did try to negotiate a lower price. All they wanted to do was offer bundles. I don’t want a land line or cable again. The Internet is working very well in the house with our wifi google nest set up. And surprisingly, the indoor antenna is very effective.

So, I’m in my free trial of YouTube tv right now. Is there a way to look at just the free stuff, not buy or rent? It’s annoying to go to a topic like “comedy” and just keep strolling thru rent or buy.

Sorry, I meant the SF Giants. Our son-in-law subscribes to Red Zone and we can share that.

What if you just mainly watch Netflix, Amazon prime and occasionally sports. What’s the cheapest way to cut the cord? Roku? Is there a way to get live tv occasionally through some subscription?

If it was just me it would not be an issue, as I don’t watch sports. I’d just stream. But we need to find a way for him to watch them, so that’s why we are doing YouTube tv.

Not to be a total dummy but is YouTube tv a subscription or an actual tv like apple?
I’m in the same boat, but he watches college football and baseball.

It’s a subscription. Like Netflix, you watch on their app or website.

But it’s also a substitute for cable, in that you can watch a lineup of live channels that are basically what cable providers offer. But yes, you do need a smart tv or streaming device (or phone/tablet/pc) to watch.

Roku is just a device. You still need subscriptions like Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc. If you want live TV (including sports) you need YTTV, Fubo or Hulu Live.

YTTV is a subscription, as @MWCDSS said. But Apple TV is not an “actual TV” either. It’s a device (like Roku) through which you can stream content. Apple TV+ is a streaming content service, but it’s a paid subscription completely separate from the Apple TV device. You can have one without the other.

Any of the live TV services I mentioned above will work - except for NFL Sunday Ticket, which is only available through YTTV.

You need to check what station carries your local baseball team. Last I checked, YTTV does not carry any of the Bally’s stations or YES (The Yankees station).
