Zenni...first timer

Well…I probably should have started this before I ordered…but I just did my first zenni glasses order. Total was $88 which is 1/4 of what I pay at the optician! I’m hoping it all works. I had the PD so that was a plus…didn’t need to do that measuring by myself.

Anyway…ordered a pair that look just like the ones I really liked on a flight attendant last night! Hoping I like them on…me.

Would love to hear recent experiences!

I LOVE Zenni! One thing I have learned: when ordering, choose a pair of glasses that you already own that fit you well, and measure them. Compare with the measurements of the ones you want to order to make sure they’re close. I ordered a pair years ago that didn’t fit well, so now I do this before ordering and have never had that problem again. I can buy 4 or more pairs of glasses for the cost of one pair from my eye doctor. Plus you can order sunglasses. I have a ridiculously huge collection of glasses thanks to Zenni–a pair in every room of the house, so I never have to go looking for them!

@Labmama

Measurements of the glasses? I didn’t see that at all!! I just used my PD and supposedly they will send the right size! Uh oh…hope I didn’t goof someplace!

My spouse has ordered from them twice - no problems at all! Glasses were great! I think all you need is your PD (pupillary distance) and prescription info.

My husband uses them quite often, had no problems.

@thumper1 Zenni provides measurements for the frame width, temple length etc. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and they will fit well! If not, next time around, try comparing measurements.

Happy with the Zennis I have ordered. First pair were @$20 for my son. Our insurance only paid toward glasses every other year and son had a driver test coming up a few weeks before. He ended up not taking the test, but the glasses would have gotten him through the test until we could use insurance benefits a few weeks later to buy a (more expensive pair) that he liked. I purchased a basic frame ($6.95?). He didn’t like them after he got them, but they make a good pair to have as a spare. Daughter lost glasses and I think I paid around $20 or so for a replacement pair. Bought both kids prescription sunglasses at Christmas for around $40. Both pleased. It was worth the risk at those prices. Daughter only needs glasses for classroom and driving so keeps a pair in her backpack and one in car.

When I wore glasses, I always bought from Zenni. They worked great. My only advice is to use the measurements from your prior pair of glasses to purchase new ones. It’s hard to judge sizing otherwise.

Ack ack ack…I had NO idea about this measuring and sizes. Guess I’ll just have to hope for the best…

I haven’t tried Zenni, but did have a good experience with Warby Parker for progressives. I think it is more or less the same

Has anyone needed to return a pair of glasses to Zenni? How did they handle it?

I’ve bought 6 - 8 pairs from Coastal and recently had to return a pair. It was the same brand and same stated measurements as a pair I bought last fall, yet it was considerably tighter. The new glasses could fit inside the old ones with room to spare. The return/replacement process took about a month and was handled poorly, so no more Coastal purchases for us.

There’s a Warby Parker store at a mall near me. I think I’ll try them next time I need to buy glasses. From looking at their frame selection, it was nice to see them having narrower frames. I have a small face & finding frames that aren’t too large has been frustrating.

I’ve had good luck with Zenni. I wear glasses over my contacts for driving and TV watching so I like to have these glasses tucked in all the cars and various rooms of the house. No one really sees me in them so I buy their lowest priced ones.

I have some expensive glasses I really like so I try to match the same numbers that are found inside the arm of the frame. I have a narrower face so it keeps me from getting frames that overwhelm me. Here is an explanation of the measurements that are in all frames:

“If you look on the inside of your glasses, you’ll find a number that looks like: 52 [] 18 135. This information shows you the size of your glasses; the lens diameter, the bridge width and the side length, all measured in millimeters. The lens diameter is the width of the lens (in mm), measured from the bridge.”

The Zenni search filters will use PD plus these other numbers to narrow down to just the frames that will fit you best.

Most frames in optical shops are extremely expensive because of the Luxottica monopoly in that retail venue:

Zenni, Warby Parker, and some other online glasses shops are (much) less expensive because they are not part of Luxottica.

Really funny. I was watching a Chicago Bulks game last night and say the name Zenni on it and didn’t have a clue then an announcer starting talking about them. Used Warby Parker in Chicago without any issues. They are actually great.

But…the order never asked me for any other numbers…just the PD and my RX…:frowning:

If you shopped women’s glasses and don’t have a particularly wide or narrow face your glasses will probably fit fine.

@wellspring I did shop women’s glasses. My face is sort of small, but not excessively so.

If there had been a place on the order form for these other numbers…I have them! Oh well!!

I bought my first pair of Zennis without knowing about the measurements (and with a bad guess for pupillary distance) and they were fine. Maybe beginner’s luck. But now I can use the measurements of that first pair to choose subsequent pairs.

Dang! Just yesterday, I ordered new glasses (first time in five years, as I usually have contacts in). Close to $400. Had I known…

But I will be checking out those sunglasses!
