When I was investigating Costco for ordering progressives, they asked me if I have progressives from an “ eye doctor vendor” ? They said I would see a difference in their lenses; since I didn’t find frames I liked and I hadn’t worn progressives before I didn’t order or follow up. Any idea what this could mean?
I have no idea what that means. I used to work for an ophthalmology practice with an optical shop and I have never heard that term.
I have heard of folks who have gotten progressives at Costco and generally been happy, especially at the lower prices than other vendors. Maybe talk with a different Costco? Some of the different stores have better Opticians than others.
Wow, I had heard about these online stores but haven’t used one yet. I desperately need new glasses and sunglasses but no insurance just yet. My last two pair cost me nearly $800 WITH insurance three years ago. I’ll be in the market again in May, thanks for all this information!
@thumper1 good luck, let us know how they work out
I’m not expecting perfect… but I have to say, some of my $450 optical shop glasses haven’t been perfect.
And the ones I got at BJs once…garbage…real garbage!
We have bought glasses from Costco for the past 20+ years at Costco for me, H and both of our kids. We have been very pleased with their quality and responsiveness whenever we have any issues. They are happy to swap out nosepads, make adjustments, try to repair frames, replace lenses, whatever it takes to help the customers be satisfied. Of course, there are differences among Costco branches. Our suburban Costco is MUCH more customer-oriented than the larger town store.
They often have coupons so you get $20-30 off for each pair of glasses you buy at the same after your 1st pair, all with the same Rx. This helps keep the costs very reasonable and we get a pair or regular Rx glasses and a pair of polarized UV protective Rx sunglasses.
I am s fan of zenni and have quite a few pairs. I have on near slightly eye and one far sighted eye and progressive lenses. My eyes are super close together and I have bought both smaller women’s frames and some kids frames and have only one pair that I don’t love so I don’t wear that pair much.
I started out in readers, then prescription readers. When my distance vision started to go, I took my Rx to Walmart and ordered progressives. I couldn’t see anything with them so I returned them. After my prescription changed, I ordered progressives from Zenni. I don’t love them, but I can use them in a pinch. I don’t know if the expensive ones from my doctor’s office would be any better, but I really don’t want to spend that much money to find out. I do get tired of changing from “up close” glasses to “far away” glasses for watching tv and driving at night. I would order from Zenni again but probably just single vision lenses.
