Zenni glasses update

FWIW, I wasn’t happy with my progressives from Zenni.

Is there an Option at Zenni (or other manufacturers) to add some kind of coating to reduce glare spots in photographs? My D is getting married soon and reading this thread makes me think I want to research if I have any options besides just taking off my glasses.

The glasses come with anti glare something in the lenses.

I’m getting ready To order sunglasses and can’t decide whether to get the ones that are clear and darken in the sun…or regular sunglasses.

@thumper1 - If you need the sunglasses for driving, don’t get the ones that darken in the sun. The coating on most windshields will make it so that your sunglasses wont darken inside the car. (Learned that the hard way!)

I heard that too…but I also heard that if they are dark when you get into the car, you are good to go.

That wasn’t my experience. They would fade and not be dark enough. I only lasted a month before I went and got new sunglasses. And forget it if you are getting into your car from a garage.

I don’t think they stay dark either, and also, I don’t believe they are polarized.

The glass of the windshield blocks UV and prevents Transitions type lenses from darkening. Yes, the lenses darken before you get into the car, but they lighten up again while you’re driving. I bought prescription sunglasses for driving. (Not Zenni).

My last pair of progressives were polarized, but I skipped that for my current pair. The polarization was linked to the darkening-- no darkening, no polarization. So it didn’t work while driving!

Yes, we were told by Costco that the sunglasses would darken while driving and lighten the rest of the time. They didn’t do so to our satisfaction so we returned them to Costco for full refunds.

@“Cardinal Fang” " , DH got distance only for his biking glasses – figured he didn’t need anything else for a single activity. Not sure if that’s an option that would be viable for you…

How do you do the progressives online? At the discount place I go to (but not like these prices), they measure with the frames to make sure they make the progression correctly.

Sounds like a great idea for an extra pair of distance only sunglasses, however.

@mom2and

I don’t know how they did it…but my progressives are perfect. They are actually way better at $88 a pair than the $450 ones I got from my optician.

I think I’ll just order plain old sunglasses. They aren’t as expensive anyway. I would only use them when I’m outdoors in the summer or driving.

I tried my old distance only sunglasses in the car recently and I absolutely hated the way they make everything close up worse than I see without glasses. Definitely thinking about trying out progressive sunglasses from zenni.

Oh yes, when I first started wearing progressives and was still adapting, I had a hard time parallel parking (I had to look through the blurred zone in the lens when looking back) so I had a pair of distance-only glasses made for driving.

Mistake! I couldn’t see the dashboard clearly. However, it might work for someone with a low add (i.e. a low reading prescription.)

On second thought, maybe not even for them. There isn’t just one distance zone in progressives…there is nearer and farther. One still wants to be able to read signs clearly as one draws closer to them.

I had my old perscription sunglasses for at least five years and then they got broken on a family trip. I thought about getting just distance, but besides wanting to read outside I also want to be able to glance at the dashboard or a map easily when driving. Hopefully, the new ones will last more than 5 years as well!

I need to read maps and cue sheets when I’m riding.

You’d be surprised how often you need to read something when all you have are your sunglasses. Out taking a walk and stopping at Starbucks or need to read your phone? Drive somewhere with sunglasses on and then need to read something at a store or restaurant?

I have sunglasses that have just my distance prescription and I leave them in the car. Never use them since I usually have my progressive sunglasses ON. I use my progressive sunglasses all the time. Walk into a store and have to use them for reading, to read the instructions to buy a train ticket, to check my phone, I walk into the house and just start reading the paper or doing something and don’t even notice I still have sunglasses on.

Right now, my progressive sunglasses are the best glasses I have. My regular glasses are so ‘filmy’ that I’ve gone back to wearing the pair from the prior prescription. I need to go to the doctor and get a new prescription and then order about 200 pairs of glasses.

@twoinanddone I am getting regular prescription sunglasses…not clear glass.

I will get progressives and get my regular RX…but in regular sunglasses glass…not the kind that changes from clear to dark.

I guess I didn’t make that clear.

What do you do about adjusting the fit of the frames when you get the glasses?

I was really lucky. My frames fit perfectly!!!
