It will spread as far as that mosquito spreads - which covers about 1/2 of the continental US. It’s really hard to defeat an insect.
Only 1/2 of the continental U.S. has mosquitoes? I thought it was more. I’ve lived in ND, MN, TX, and OH and they’re in those states and I’m sure all states east.
CBS News just reported that 69 pregnant women in the U.S. now have the Zika virus. They said it wasn’t announced if they had contracted it while traveling or here in the U.S.
I meant the Aedes Aegypti mosquito which is the main carrier of Zika. I’m not sure if other sub species carry it at all or are just less likely to carry it.
More than 1/2 has mosquitos just not the range for the particular breed that carries Zika. But, with changing weather patterns, who know if that range will change as well?
I saw that CBS report tonight as well. Over 2,000 cases here in the US although the majority are travel cases.
I didn’t see the report but I did hear something earlier that sent a chill up my spine. Mosquitoes are going to explode in Louisiana because of the flooding. They can ill afford any Zika cases.
There is some good news though. They don’t like winter. I’m not sure at what temperature they begin to go into their dormant state though.
Here is a map, and yes, it is nearly half geographically, but may cover more than half of the population areas.
